Where should I go in South America?

Question by valerielovesme88: Where should I go in South ?
I’m going to be touring South for 4-6 weeks next spring (their fall). I don’t have an itinerary yet. What are some DON’T MISS things I need to do/see? I have a short list of my own, but I’m sure there are amazing things not commonly listed in tour guides that only someone who’s been there could fill me in on.

Depends on your tastes. If you’re adventurous, Machu Pichu in Peru and maybe Nazca. Iguazu Falls in Argentina/Brazil, Tiwanaku in La Paz Bolivia, Tree hotels on the Amazon river, and the desert in northen Chile. But if you prefer something more civilized, try Buenos Aires, Santiago de Chile (also the south of Argentina-very cheap if u have USD or Euros- and southern Chile). Punta del Este in Uruguay preferably in Summer. Then Rio de Janeiro, in spite of problems you may have heard about….beautiful city.

Chile and Easter Island make a great trip! Santiago is great, cosmopolitan city and nearby Valparaiso is an interesting seaside town. Easter Island is an awesome side trip and plan on spending 4-5 days there to see everything.

Peru has many many great places…Cuzco, Macchu Picchu and Sacred Valley are a MUST!!! since you have plenty of time, I recommend you to do this…stay 1-2 days in Lima, there are cool city tours that will show you the old and colonial side of town as well as the modern Lima. Then go to Nazca and take a flight over Nazca Lines. Go to Arequipa and don’t miss the Colca Canyon, if you’re lucky you get to see a “condor” flying, the nature, and people traditions are pretty interesting too.
Keep going to Puno and visit Titicaca Lake. If you still can handle it (’cause it takes a good health condition to do all this) and will want to see the master pieces in Incas architecture you go to Cuzco and Macchu Picchu, the best places on earth by far!!!!.Believe me, you will love Peru.
Cajamarca and Ayacucho are cool too. If you like the rainforest try Puerto Maldonado and visit Manu.
