Where in South America should I take my holiday?
Question by guarapple: Where in South America should I take my holiday?
I’m planning to visit South America this year for the second time round. I’ve been already to Brazil & Argentina (loved them!), and I would like to visit another country which is equally as developed as those two, both commercially and with regards to western hotels etc. (ie, NOT Bolivia =). Any suggestions?

If you stay in the major cities such as Bogota, Lima, Santiago, Quito, etc. you will find that the western hotels are very common. As far as commercially developed, I think Colombia or Chile are your choices.

Have you been to Machu Picchu? If not its an amazing place. Cuzco is a cool place too. Lima is fun and the Ceviche is great. The amazon is pretty sweet too.
Colombia. Go to Bogota, Cartagena. Cali and Medellin. You will find it as developed as those countries and you will find hotels to your liking (I like the Plaza in Bogota on Calle 100 in Bogota) and GREAT people if you are adventurous.. go to San Andres
The rest of the Southern Cone, like Uruguay and Chile, as well as Colombia, are good bets. Those are the most developed parts of Latin America.
The Andes would be great, like Ecuador or Peru, but since you want more developed, those wouldn’t be as good choices.
Don’t worry about all the bad things your read about Colombia in the news, if you stay in the big cities and dress down (like you have to in Brazil these days), you should be fine. Every foreigner that I’ve ever met that travels to Colombia absolutely loves it, it’s the same sort of love that middle class people in America seem to have with Costa Rica.
Try Bogota and Cartagena.
If you want to be westernized go back to Brazil or Argentina, oh wait I have a better idea go to Venezuela they love Americans over there. Really if you don’t want to see the real south America the stick to your American Brazilian hotels, go to Rio they have the best hookers for you.
