I am leaving in January for a 3-4 month backpacking (as in hostels, city to city, etc., not much actual hiking) trip in South America, and I am wondering what the best bag would be for my purposes. I am hoping to spend less than 0.

Look at the REI Mars. It is a good pack. I used it when I hiked the first 1200 miles of the PCT.
