Question by proud nerd: what are some cultural celebrations/holidays that I may not have heard of?
I’m thinking of taking a year with my children and celebrating holidays from different cultures in the way that those cultures would celebrate. Just to teach them about other cultures. Any ideas for holidays that aren’t typically celebrated in an American/Christian home?

Krampusnacht! Krampus is kind of like Santa’s evil twin.http://paganwiccan.about.com/od/yuletraditions/p/Krampusnacht.htm There are Krampusnacht parties in big cities in the US, but it’s still mostly limited to Germany, Bavaria and small Alpine communities.
