we are looking for a relatively inexpensive holiday destination in Central/South America with lots to see/do!?

Question by sarah: we are looking for a relatively inexpensive holiday destination in Central/South America with lots to see/do!?
we want something that isn’t just a resort, we like to be able to see the area outside of the beach and explore, but don’t want to spend loads. Ideally an all inclusive that we can take 2 nights out of and stay elsewhere nearby.. recommendations welcome!

Honduras is a pretty good spot. You could fly into San Pedro Sula pretty cheap and just a couple of hours to the south you have the Mayan ruins of Copan with a nice lodge to stay in called Hacienda San Lucas. Close to the ruins you have waterfalls, thermal springs, mayan villages and lots more. On your way back to San Pedro Sula you could ask to stop by the Pulhapanzak waterfall, one of the most beautiful in the country. There’s a bathing area and you could also do canopy. To the north you have the beach towns of Tela and La Ceiba both amazing. For souveniers the Guamilito in San Pedro has everything u could need. Hope this helped. =]

Check out San Andres Island, Colombia. Lots of Canadians fly directly there from Toronto and other places.

There is also a sister island called Provedencia. It is a lot quieter there.

  3. La Ceiba and Tela, Honduras have many resort/hotels that you can use as your base and divide your time between the beach and the mountains. Or visit some of the small nearby villages to get a taste of real Honduran life. Hotels, food and transportation are all very reasonable. Spend a little time on line investigating one or both areas for resorts and attractions. The Bay Islands just off the coast from La Ceiba are beautiful, interesting, and worth a visit, but I cannot say they are inexpensive.
