Q&A: Need help planing a Ski trip to Colorado!!!!!?

Question by titi: Need help planing a Ski trip to Colorado!!!!!?
Hey People, I need some help planing a trip to Colorado. I would like to surprise my husband with a ski trip, we have never been there before: My husband is an experiened snowboarder and I am just a beginner. I would like us to stay at a cute little ski lodges for a week, hopefully not that far away from the ski center (and how many are there anyway), can anyone recomend a ski lodge and a ski center? Our travel date would probably be early March 2008, is there still going to be good quality snow? and when should I make a reservation? We are coming from South America, which airport is the closest? So many questions, thanks a lot in advance.

There are a TON of ski resorts in Colorado. Most are within a couple hours drive from Denver International Airport, but some may be closer to the airport in Grand Junction (western colorado). The website below has links to the ski resorts and a toll-free phone number to call to ask questions.

There are dozens of ski resorts in Colorado. A few of my favorites are Steamboat, Vail, Aspen, Breckenridge and Beaver Creek.
Vail and Aspen are probably the best for those who want to enjoy a life off the hills in addition to skiing.
A lot of people fly into Denver International and take shuttles or rental cars from there. You are looking at a couple hour drive minimum. Since you’re coming so far anyhow you might as well find flights right into ski country (aspen or something).

I would suggest Winter Park, CO. It is a lot of variety of skiing, three mountains are part of the ski area. it is a lot more low key than other Colorado resorts. You will get more for your money there with all the great skiing/boarding and mountain experince you would want. the closest airport is Denver International about and hour and a half away. You can stay in ski-in/ski out at the Zephyr or Iron Horse Resort. Check it out at http://www.skiwinterpark.com. As far as snow at that time of year- it all depends on the year, but the last few years have had great spring snow! I would not suggest Steamboat Springs, CO in the Spring- any other time of Winter is great, just not Spring.

I would suggest going to breckenridge. They always have great snow, and they have a variety of terrain so that you and your husband can enjoy yourselves. It is also a beautiful, scenic, only 2-hour drive from denver. The motto is ” Breckenridge: The Perfect Mountain Town.” I am certain that you will find a little nice, cozy place to stay. Breckenridge isn’t exactly a resort community, like vail, and their downtown area is famous for apres-ski and dine.
