Q&A: Is Police and non blacks harassment of Blacks in South Beach Miami overwhelming?

Question by Kenchi: Is Police and non blacks harassment of Blacks in South Beach Miami overwhelming?
Perspectives from Black people most welcomed in addressing this question.

I’m looking to visit south beach Miami for a holiday break during the non American national holidays synonymous with ‘Black’ events. As a black visitor from Europe, I would likely need to stay at the tourist’s areas purely because of convenience (beach) and attractions and where most of hotels are based there.

I like to research where I’m visiting just to understand what I’m getting myself into. Frankly, comments I’m reading online about Miami suggests as usual a distinctive racial sentiments against Blacks.

As anyone can appreciate, I’m going to be spending earned money to visit Miami and don’t want to feel my money and experience wasted because of the mistreatment I’ll receive as a Black person if I stay in south beach Miami from non blacks (Latino and whites of upper and lower classes) and the polices. It seems Miami is a hotbed of racism and Blacks there are perceived as social demons.

As with most people in the world, they will make prejudicial judgements first and will treat you accordingly until they learn differently about who you are, but most time the damage has been done by then.

Therefore, what I need to understand is: would I be left alone to enjoy my holiday in south beach Miami as a Black adult male?

Latinos aren’t really that racist. It’s the white people you have to watch out for. Downtown Miami and Kendal and places like that are less racist than northern Miami.

  2. I live in south beach and you do not want to come down here during the week leading up to Memorial Day weekend and the week after.. It is considered ” hip hop / urban weekend ” and that is fine but it has turned into a mess. Yes, there are tons of black people which is great but 90% of them that come down for this weekend ACT like thug, gangster, scum bag black people. There are cops on every corner and while they do not ACT racist or biased, they are very strict since of all the horrible behavior that happens that weekend. This past year there were shootings during it, litter covering the streets, everyone pissing all over and fights left and right in day light. It is horrible. The smart locals leave town. I am all for a huge party / gathering of any race, but this crowd that gathers is not a group of normal black people, its the lowest of low. Sure, party, get a little wild and loud and have a good time, i’m all for it, but here it goes WAY beyond that, it gets violent and horrible. If you want to have a good time that weekend I would suggest that perhaps you fly into Miami airport, rent a nice convertible, check out south beach ONE DAY and see what I’m talking about ( its the worst friday, saturday, sunday and memorial day ( monday) and then when u see how horrible it is for that one day you can say u at least checked it out and after u deal with that one day, take that car and drive down through the keys for a nice relaxing, beautiful memorial day weekend w a breath taking drive/view of the ocean on both sides of the bridges u go over. Get down to key west and enjoy the most beautiful sunrise and sunset you have ever seen. There are plenty of places to party on Duval street in key west and the drink prices are wayyy better than in south beach. Just my suggestion. To answer your question though, yes you will be left alone if you are not walking down the street w alcohol in your hand, are not littering, fighting, pissing in the street or smelling like herb ( they have drug sniffing dogs out all the time in south beach) ive seen plenty of people get tackled by them, its crazy.

Why do so many Blacks see racism lurking around every corner? Every race has nice people and complete assholes. Miami is no different.
