Question by Vinny: I need a good excuse to get away from my family and work for a week. Any ideas?
Before I was married my previous job allowed me to earn a bunch of airline points… which are now expiring. He used some of the points for a trip to visit his friends alone a few years ago and now there’s enough for one more trip. I REALLY want to go on an adventure tour in South America but he would never want to do that — he’d rather see Europe — which I’ve already been to. I wouldn’t mind going back to Europe with him but I honestly need a break from my entire life right now. It’s not terrible, just overwhelming and is just a drag in general (wintertime, his job sucks, my job doesn’t pay enough, normal stuff).
I could just come out and tell him what I want to do but I don’t want to go through the hassle of having him feel offended and then spending more time trying to get him to understand — which, let’s face it — he may or may not do.
My current job doesn’t travel me at all — so that one’s not going to work. My folks live in Florida so I couldn’t just say I was going there without a LOT of lying. I feel super selfish for even wanting to do something like this. When I was single I used to travel by myself a lot and loved it. Five years into a marriage and I really do know the meaning of the phrase “ball and chain”. Which just sucks.

This is perhaps the most selfish post I’ve ever read on here. Almost makes me ashamed to be a woman.
tell your work ur going on vacation and tell ur family ur going to meet ur cousins that live farther away
Is there a family member or friend you love and he doesn’t like? If so, take some time and visit them. I doubt he’ll want to tag along if he doesn’t like them.
It’s a blooming good idea. Go for it. Just tell him the truth. He went to visit friends alone so you can take your turn now. There’s no point in endless discussion. Just tell him you need this break to get your head back in place and that’s what you are going to do. Have fun.
take the trip that you want. you deserve it.
With a name like “Vinny”, I think you could find a way to tell him to suck it up because you are going on a trip for some “me” time.
Hassle or not–you are in a relationship and sometimes, you have to deal with a hassle or two. Honesty beats dishonesty any day of the week, and is far better than losing trust in a relationship.
Be honest! Remind him of his trip and tell him what you want to do and why. If he whines, ignore it and go.He will just have to put on his big boy pants and deal with it.
