Given the strength of the U.K. pound vs. the U.S. dollar (1 pound = ~ $2), pretty much ANYWHERE you go in the U.S. will be cheap for you! During the summer, the airfare is a bit high, but with your very favorable exchange rate, you’ll do well anywhere you go – even in the big cities or tourist destinations.
First question: What are you looking for in a holiday / vacation? (Americans call them “vacations” by the way)
Now…are you looking for ocean, city, mountains, warm or real warm? What time of the year are you looking to visit America?
Try this site: iBtraveling.com and it’ll have lots of information and great package deals too. You’ll even be able to learn about each state before you arrive.
Sounds like fun!
My suggestion would be New England so you can may be experience the ocean, mountains, city (Boston). Then you can have a choice by staying in a suburb and driving to where you’d like to go for that day. If you’ve got kids, try Six Flags New England and a day in the mountains of Massachusetts, then a day in Boston and a few days on Cape Cod (Falmouth is nice…Sea Creast Inn on the ocean is nice, small waves, beautiful sunsets and warm water).
Burlington, Vermont is pretty and nice too. Or North Conway in New Hamphsire, Portland, Maine or Newport, Rhode Island to see all the mansions on the coast and have fun in the water at the same time. In Newport, I believe there’s a working lighthouse that you can stay for a night (pay) and also help work it at the same time.
Loads to do in New England. Have fun!
Trips to Vegas and surrounding areas are not too high priced- especially in the summer when the heat makes it unbearable.
The California coast is another good idea.
Drive from Miami to Key west.Just not in the high season.
Have some fun.
