Brainrotting: Episode 7 – South Mexico, BMW F650 GS adventure motorcycles motorcycling motorcycle

I ride and I record. There’s no editing of video’s when I’m back at home, my video’s are all edited on the road because I want to share my experiences as they happen, so… Follow my journey through North, Central and South America. I’ve jacked in the job, packed my life into a pair of panniers and a roll bag and tied them down to a BMW F650 Dakar. Now it’s time for some fun! In this episode I ride through the south of Mexico via Puerto Escondido, Oaxaca and on to the Yucatan peninsula.

This clip was shot in the South of Colombia after four days of torrential rain. I was riding from Tierradentro to San Agustin and had to cross this slippery and swaying bamboo bridge with my bike fully loaded because the regular road bridge had collapsed or washed away. The river water was a matter of inches beneath me, and I wasn’t happy about making the crossing but some Colombians at the entrance to the bridge encouraged me to attempt it. I had the foresight to turn my helmet camera on! You can follow my motorcycle adventures on twitter @Brainrotting, join the Brainrotting group on Facebook, or find out more at www.brainrotting.com

I have a helmet camera (VIO POV1) which I sometimes attach to the handle bars… helmet is better for less vibration. Also ContourHD 1080p is a good helmet camera.

How to you drive and video tape at the same time!

I don’t post regularly on others videos- but yours are really entertaining – The time you have gone to editing down, combining the “right” music & giving a number of “bite sized” tips is really professionally done and subsequently compelling. Thank you ever so much Graham-Rod

It’s weird how you got stopped that many times by the military. During four months with my bike in Mexico I got stopped only once.

  26. westvleteren10 Dec 6th 2010

You could have ridden every mile prior to and after crossing this bridge crossing on tarmac and no one would have argued with you terming the nature of the trip “Adventure Motorcycling.” Cojones grande.

  27. norfolkdash9 Dec 6th 2010

Now, why are you crossing with a motor bike?

  28. sethmilll Dec 6th 2010

I dont get it. Is this a suspention bridge? It looks like its a couple feet above the water the hole way across, Is it suported in the middle? Either way good vid you got balls thats for sure!

  29. mbleft Dec 6th 2010

    I’m not that brave.

  30. xXxBLINGO07xXx Dec 6th 2010

    F**K
It would have been worse if the water was lower I think…that bridge is quality engineering!

  31. edgarcorrea69 Dec 6th 2010

  32. ralahinn1 Dec 6th 2010

  34. sswify Dec 6th 2010

    これは怖いw

  35. geraalexis Dec 6th 2010

you NEED TO courage to pass this bridge estas bien loco amigo

  36. eatmoreraw Dec 6th 2010

    Great video but utter madness!
If you dropped the bike you highly likely would have lost your life too. You’d never swim with your motorbike gear on.
I would have done a 1000 mile detour to get round that.

  37. easyg1409 Dec 6th 2010

@saliaris12 LOL now I quite like your brother! Very funny… and thanks for replying :-)

  38. saliaris12 Dec 6th 2010

  43. jagermini Dec 7th 2010

Shit man, I took my bike over the same bridge, nearly lost it there too. Bridge started swinging, I revved the shit out of it and skipped to the other side, madness. Never again. At least not how I did. Great to see I’m not the only one to do it… ;)

  44. blown22 Dec 7th 2010

    @Bakerman1963

    LOL…..EEEEEEEYAAAAAAAHHHHH!

  45. speedcorematik Dec 7th 2010

Wtf lol cant They built à bridge if i was you i would smoke à sigarett and sniff 2 kilo coke after that omg

  46. AlbertoV70 Dec 7th 2010

I also know 2 more things:
    1. Short after you crossed (I guess less than a month) the bamboo bridge was also
    washed away.
    2. There was an alternate route to the other side, it took us over 3 ours (from the bamboo bridge) on my SUV to get to tierradentro; with the new bridge it´s a 30 min ride.

  47. easyg1409 Dec 7th 2010

@AlbertoV70 You star! My Spanish was good enough then! I was told that the bridge had been washed away and they were rebuilding it, the I was then told I’d have to cross the bamboo excuse for a bridge. I can’t believe you know this. Thanks for taking the time to explain

  48. AlbertoV70 Dec 7th 2010

Forgot to mention, I wasn´t talking about the bridge on the video, it was temporal and for pedestrians only (well, and crazy bikers). BTW, there´s a new bridge now, 2 lanes and all, several meters over the river of course.

  49. AlbertoV70 Dec 7th 2010

Info about the bridge: this place is called “Juntas” (joints) because 3 rivers coming from the Andes meet at this spot; over a year ago there was a flood caused by the river coming from the Huila volcano (Paez river) (active volcano, ice on top …); the bridge was destroyed by a mud avalanche; not many lifes where lost this time, but when the same thing happened during the 90´s complete villages where destroyed.
