I guess all countries have interesting places to visit.

You can go to Chile first, you may want to get to know Santiago, and maybe travel south. You can take a bus to Argentina, and then get to Buenos Aires. Then you can cross to Colonia, Uruguay. Then take a bus to Montevideo. Then head to the beaches: Punta del Este – fancy but expensive beach resort- and Rocha – laid back, younger people there. You may also want to head to Brazilian beaches, such as Rio de Janeiro, Florianópolis. You may also want to visit Iguazu Falls, and maybe Asuncion, although it’s supposed to be very hot in the summer.

These are some options. You may also want to visit the Inca ruins in Peru.

I guess the cheapest accomodation would be staying at hostels, which is also a good way of meeting people. Here’s the link: http://www.hihostels.com/web/index.en.htm

  1. “Unfairly or not, Colombia is still known for its cocaine cartels and street violence, but cool-hunting travelers are calling it Latin America’s next affordable hot spot”, as Denny Lee of The NY Times writes in the Travel Section. Bogota, its capital has long been known as the Athens of Latin America; today a thriving metropolis of almost eight million people.
Unbelievable, seven years ago Colombia was a country with one of the highest rates of kidnapping. No road was safe and most cities were under control by one of the cocaine cartels. Today Colombia is for sale and hundreds of thousands of visitors are buying it. “The only risk is ‘not wanting’ to leave”.
Colombia is a country of cities: Medellin, Cali, Cucuta, Bucaramanga, Ibague and many more, all with a distinct culture and culinary traditions. The roads while much improvement still needed are safe and offer the beauty of the Andes snow cap mountains to the Sierra Nevada, the only snow cap mountain born in the shores of the Caribbean.
Cartagena de Indias, a Unesco World Heritage site, one of the most visited ports by the cruise ship industry. It is home to the most celebrated festival of classic music in the region and offers the frugal traveler the best in boutique hotels and gourmet restaurants.
