Backpacking in Argentina….?
Question by Christjan: Backpacking in Argentina….?
I am looking to travel around Argentina for 8 days in February 2010, with 3 other friends. I will fly from Rio de Janeiro where I will be living. I know flights for this are around 400 return. How much can i expect to spend if we want to take a bus to places and see iguaza falls (or however you spell it) and places like that? How much will it cost to enter and drink at a club? and how much can i expect to spend on food and entertainment during these 8 days? Hostels inclued..
thanks for the answer, but im looking for general living in Argentina, how much would it cost to feed myself for a day on the street (not a restuarant) i am looking for people to tell me prices of general living, e.g.buses, food on the street etc thanks!

Hello,
Flights to Iguazu are around 0 USD, the bus is around 0 USD, but takes a LONG time… drinks in a club are around 7USD, food depends, its anything from -USD, bakeries are usually a good cheap option! Hostels in BA are around USD a night, but cheaper in the provinces…
Have a great trip!

Baires info is good but you can definitly be cheaper than that. When I was in Bs. As. a few months ago I was in a double room for more like 20USD food can be cheap, expensive, or anywhere in between depends what you want to do. For a daily budget, if you don’t include admision to places like Iguazu or flights/buses 80US a day is easily doable if you are trying to save money.
Overall traveling in B.A. is relatively cheap. I was there 3 years ago though, so prices may have changed some. There are plenty of hostels you can stay in, but make sure you find a reputable one. We stayed at Mansion 8cho (http://www.gomio.com/hostels/south_america/argentina/buenos%20aires/mansion%208cho/overview.htm) and it was very nice. It’s bed and breakfast style. It’s a little off the beaten track, and near a police station. As with most of B.A. you should not go walking alone at night. The trains and buses are pretty cheap and taxis are readily available as well. I think you can reasonably eat on about $20 a day per person. We took a domestic flight to Iguazu, it was less than $100 round trip, and then we took a cab from the airport to the hotel at the falls. We stayed at the Sheraton on the Argentine side. The Brazil side is very nice, but requires a separate visa. The Sheraton was one of the nicest hotels I have been to outside the US and it was also one of the cheapest. We split our room cost 3 ways so it was only about $25 usd per night. I would highly recommend the rafting adventures in addition to hiking the falls, i believe it was about $8.00 us. Drinks in the club were fairly expensive, but not any worse than in the us… $7-10 per drink. I don’t remember paying any cover charges for clubs.
Don’t forget that you will need to take medication for Malaria prevention while in Argentina if you plan to go outside of Buenos Aires.
