Question by Fins+Wings{8 – 88}: Top six with least corruption–Denmark, Sweden,NZ,Singapore,Finland,Switzerland,–best for ?
So that your trip is trouble-free, you make genuine friends and you would consider return visits?
Do you know any other country not listed here, most attractive for a hassle-free holiday?

Thanks for your opinions!

When someone mentions corruption, I always equate that with governments or multi-national corporations and their dealings, but not really with the entire population of a country – so I’m not really sure what you mean by that.

If you take out the corruption part, and I base the answer on the second part of your question – well I see a lot of questions posted here about Denmark, Sweden & Finland, and see that many people have great there, but when it comes to making life-long friends (or making friends when living there) then this is not an easy.

My experience in Finland & Denmark at least is that generally (and I dislike generalisations it has to be said) people are a little reserved and wait to pass judgement – calm & cautious. However when this barrier is let down, then they are very warm and loyal friends.

Generally speaking I would add Australia and Ireland to the list. Australians & the Irish are very open, friendly, positive people with a great sense of humour….. plus both have a lot to offer as a tourist destination.

I’ve never been to Singapore, but I have been to the other countries and encountered no problems in any of them, and had a great time in all.

Out of the countries you’ve listed I like New Zealand the best. The South Island is extraordinarily beautiful, and if you are into nature or adventure sports you will find tons of things to keep you entertained. There are less than four million people in the country, and most of the ones I met were incredibly friendly & welcoming. I was actually stunned by how generous the Kiwis were to us. Random people would just invite us over for dinner! It was an awesome experience.

Denmark, Sweden & Finland are lovely in the summer and the advantage of going there is that they are so close to one another it wouldn’t be difficult to visit all three. I would also try to go to Norway and check out Bergen and go on the Norway in a Nushell trip. I love Gamla Stan (old town) in Stockholm. I found the Swedes & Norwegians to be the friendliest, but the others were cool too. These are some of the most expensive countries in Europe, so be prepared.

Switzerland is beautiful. If you’re young you might have fun in Interlaken where there is this huge youth hostel & tons of outdoor adventure things to do. I want to go skydiving there one day.

Of course hassles can arrive in the best of places. The one time I’ve ever had anything stolen was in a posh area of Sydney, Australia when I was 12. My favorite countries in the world are Peru, Argentina & South Africa because they are beautiful and some of the friendliest people I’ve ever met live there.

Have fun where ever you decide to go.

I went to Sweden in July this year and it was beautiful. Everyone speaks english and were very helpful when I asked for anything. Their transportation system is awesome too. I had no trouble getting anywhere I wanted to go.

I also went to Finland. I found it kind of drab and boring. Most people we talked to didn’t speak any english but were still very helpful. There is a great amusement park in Helsinki.

Send me a message if you want more info :)
