Holiday in Finland and Sweden?
Question by Angel H: Holiday in Finland and Sweden?
Can anyone give me some good tips on where to go and what to do when going on holiday to Sweden & Finland. Also when would be the best time of year to go. And approx cost for 2 adults. I’m in Australia so in Australian dollars would be a little more helpful.

Summer or late spring is definitely the nicest time to visit, May or June would be my choice, or late August-September. All the natives leave for holiday in July and August, so you’ll find cheaper prices but lots of tourists and some earlier closing hours. Christmas is also beautiful, if you like cold weather. I’m basing costs on Stockholm, but Helsinki is similar.
You can go to Stockholm, then take an overnight ferry across to Helsinki (very cheap). Hotels rooms start at about 1000kr/night (186 AUD). Hostels are nice, and slightly cheaper (but not much!).

If you like meeting new people and are feeling a bit adventurous, try couchsurfing, which means free accommodation.

There’s a great open-air museum in Stockholm called Skansen and many other museums, the Old Town (Gamla Stan) is worth an extended visit, the archipelago (by ferry), and good nightlife. If you go in August, there are crayfish cruises in the archipelago, which can be nice. Helsinki has great architecture and lots of museums.
A flight from Sydney to Stockholm in May is currently about 2300 AUD.

You can get lunch for about 12 AUD, and dinner for 25+ AUD. Expect drinks to start around 9 AUD. If you shop at grocery stores, food costs can be much less. Museums are mostly free in Stockholm (but some of the nicer ones are expensive).
