In 1969, Fred Rogers appeared before the United States Senate Subcommittee on Communications. His goal was to support funding for PBS and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, in response to significant proposed cuts by President Nixon.

I watched his first show…and my children watched his last.
Fred Rogers, why aren’t there any more like you?
His voice sounds like Kevin Spacey on “Seven”. Also…the senator looks like “The Count” on Sesame Street…..he really does…..too funny!!
MR ROGERS TO YOU TOSSFACE
@exitwest – I’m certainly glad that I grew up watching the work of both of those incredible men.
22 people hate the world and themselves.
If only Mr. Rogers were here to talk to the US Senate today.
I love that he doesn’t focus on censoring the explicit, but making sure there’s always something wholesome and supportive for children to listen to.
Mr Rogers was touched by God in the heart i order to touch children in the heart for His sake. Thank you Mr Rogers I will always miss you.
This is great example of how impassioned words and language can touch the “heart” of funding agencies/donors and help them support a worthy cause. Well done.
@markmh835 Correction: Mister Rogers would like those 22 people even if they didn’t like him, because he is that humble. RIP Mr. Rogers.
Wasn’t Mr Rogers on the Nixon Enemies List
22 people don’t like PBS. 22 people don’t like Mr. Rogers. 22 people don’t like niceness. Mr. Rogers doesn’t like 22 people just the way they are….. now.
Twenty-two people disliked this video.
I’d post something angry about them, but that’s not what Mr. Rogers would have wanted. He’d have wanted me to be kind to them, even if they don’t share my opinion.
Respect and love, no matter who, no matter what, because every human being on Earth is special, and and has something to add. That’s what he said, and I stand by what he said, even though he was before my time.
He was a good man. We can learn much from him. He showed a generation how to smile.
This man was a symbol of love and light. Fred Rogers’ existence was a sign that there is someone out there – someone who wanted to tell us all “I love you.”
Fred will truely be missed, their will never be another like him
What a beautiful video from both sides of the aisle. And I thought the Chairman up there was going to give Mr. Rodgers a hard time. How wrong I was! Loved it. RIP to both of them. Just a precious video and display of love and caring. Applause!
@givemethesehills you know what? My job is to watch news broadcasts, and there is one reporter that every time she is reporting on something every 2nd word is “um”, or “uh”. It’s unbelievable.
he actually talks like that wow
Thanks Mr. Rodgers
@donpoppito He wasn’t slow at all, you just aren’t used to hearing a person think about their words before using them. Unlike most people today who talk quickly and don’t consider what they’re saying, Mr. Rogers spoke very deliberately. Most communication that goes on today, as Fred puts it, is simply bombardment. Did you notice that aside from his initial hesitation he says “um” only once? He is calm and clear and precise–a rarity, indeed–which is a huge part of what makes him so well loved.
“If everyone had his grace and tact, what a wonderful world this would be.” something to personally strive for!
Good people helping good people. This is so beautiful and touching.
@donpoppito Based on your grammatical errors, I have to ask this question: Are you a little bit slow? I like your comment overall, but are you mentally ill? Overall, you seem to be missing the point of Mr. Rogers. You seem a little bit off.
Either way, donpoppito, your comment was fucking awesome. I like you and anyone else who comments like you. You are, and still are great.
It was still a waste of money. Plenty of children grew up fine without watching PBS. I’ve only seen propaganda from PBS.
Loving children like a boss!
