Question by qrund: How do I get a UK student visa?
I’m in the U.K now on a Working Holiday Maker Visa. I’m quite keen in going to a nearby college. How do I obtain a student Visa, roughly how much will it cost & Can I apply for it in the U.K, or will I have to go back to South Africa first?
Best answer:
Answer by Lisa You just have to have enrollment papers that show that you are a student and you are paying tuition. The Enrollment papers were all I needed anyway.
Hmmm. You don’t like real advice I see. Thanks for the thumbs down. Glad you appreciated it. Well its not rocket science. Figure it on your own then. I did.

MALAWI describes itself as “the warm heart of Africa” as its people are extremely welcoming. Its landscape is defined by the crystal clear waters of Lake Malawi, one of the great lakes of the Rift Valley system and filled with fresh water aquarium fish. Beautiful Zomba Plateua and Nyika Plateau are situated high in the mountains, with breathtaking views. A safari to South Luangwa National Park in Zambia combines well with time relaxing on the shores of Lake Malawi. It is also possible to stay on the Mozambique side of the lake. Video Rating: 5 / 5

Question by : My chances of getting in?
I got 4 A* (chem, bio, french, spanish), 5 As (Chinese, Physics, Maths, English Lang & English Lit) and a B (History) for GCSE
For my Pre-Us/ A-levels, I am predicted French D3/ D2, Spanish D3/ D2 and Portuguese D2.
I also do Global Perspectives/ Independent Research which is meant to be a general studies qualification that is harder than A-Level. A Pre-U D1 is better than an A* apparently and a D2=A*, D3=A, M1=B M2=B M3=C etc.. I am currently predicted an M1 for my GPR.
I do many extra-curricular activities including DofE Bronze, Leith’s Food and Wine, Grade 8 singing, Grade 8 Musical Theatre, Grade 5 Theory, ECDL (I.T qualification), Life Support, I am head of Pier-Support and Head of Anti-Bullying at my school. I do ‘community service’ work experience at a local school for children with special needs where I often work one on one with pupils. I also have helped at Riding for the Disabled and St. Finians school over the course of several months. I am working at ballet grade 6 and have taken part in several show jumping state championships in Brazil. I also spent some time in Malawi with a link school, getting to know some girls my age going to school in Lilongwe. 3 other girls and I helped teach them english, how to use a computer and microsoft word and we gave career workshops. We also spent some time in the children’s ward at a hospital. I also went to Kenya where I spent some time planting trees and getting to know a local school. I have taken part in every school play and I was in the Hockey 2nds and Tennis team as well as being a gymnastics captain.
I spend most of my holidays in Brazil as I am half brazilian and I spent 3 months in a school in France when I was 12.
I know this is not enough information to have a definitive answer about what colleges I will get into and colleges are often very unpredictable. But what are my chances of getting a college like Brown for instance?
I can’t think of any ‘minus’ points about myself as a student except for the fact that I am very disorganised. It is the only negative thing teachers ever write about me in my reports but it is improving! I am often associated with the adjectives: mature, conscientious, polite, diplomatic, enthusiastic… I also show great interest and enjoyment in the subjects I study.
I get extra time and the use of a word processor in exams as I am slightly dyslexic and have significant issues with ‘mental organisation’ (short term memory etc…) Perhaps this would explain my lack of organisation…
with these extra-curricular activities and a good essay, could I get into Columbia/ Brown with a score of 660, 680, 680?
Thank you!

Answer by Cochise You have everything going for you but the SAT scores, which frankly are not brilliant.
The schools you listed are accepting about 8% of applicants.
Look at the top liberal arts colleges which being smaller are more interested in you as an individual. Also, in my opinion they give a superior undergraduate education that will get you into any top grad or professional program in the world.

Answer by Milk I would suggest contacting the South African Revenue Service (SARS) and the Department of Trade and Industry to find out. SARS are very efficient, so they may well reply first, but there’s always a chance that the DTI will surprise us. – Both should have the information you want.
I have put the links to both websites below, the contact details are on them on.

Question by Abelard: How would you organise a 2-week trip to explore S. Africa in most financially efficient, yet comfortable way?
I will be organising the flights myself. Need some advice e.g. on reliable local travel agents in SA who could help me to put a good sightseeing package together, with self-driving, good itinerary, comfortable, but not too expensive hotels. I want to avoid unnecessary middle-men and would like to explore the country rather than just spend time lying on a beach or being hearded with a group of 20 or so shop-craving strangers on package holidays…:-)
