Working Holiday Visa in Austrailia?

Question by Doublerainbow: Working Holiday Visa in Austrailia?
Ok
So I’m 18, and I guess I’ll bring approximately 00, excluding plane ticket.

1. Where can I work? (Where do people with WH Visa usually work?)
2. If I get to work in whereverelse, how much do I get to pay? (I know it differs… but commonly.)
3. Do I must have that TAFE cerification in order for me to become barista in Austrailia?
4. Would it be harrrrrd since I got no money? Like would I have to have work ALL day?
5. Would i still be able to go shopping and all that? Or Do I have to be extremely frugal?

I mean I never had a job before so I don’t know how much they pay you when you work at the coffee shop or farm.. I guess. Ugh Id hate to work in farm.

To answer your questions:

1) Working visa holders can only hold temporary jobs (part time or casual). This will involve work such as bar tending, waitering work at restaurants/eateries, cleaning jobs, farm work, checkout counters.

2) There is a minimum wage system in Australia – http://www.commerce.wa.gov.au/labourrelations/PDF/Awards/M/MCEWagerateseffective1July2010.pdf. This will give you an idea of the base rates.

3) You do not need a TAFE certification for a barista job. If you have/can demonstrate that you have sufficient experience then you can apply for the job.

4) You’d want to take the maximum amount of shifts possible, especially if you are intending to travel around Australia. Depends on where you are, city living can be quite expensive as a backpacker – so if you have got a low-paying job, work as much as you can.

5) You may depending on what you budget is. Try and table out traveling/eating/groceries/other expenses and whatever you have left can go to shopping/leisure activities.

Good luck.
