Buddhist lent day….12 August Queens birthday-which is also used as “Mother`s day” in U.S….12 November Loy Kratong festival-when they light candles and let them float on small floats on the water-in memory of their dead loved ones-(Ibelieve). 10 December-constitution day. and 5th. December King`s birthday. ..just few of Thai holidays…And they also celebrate western calendar New Year, and Christmass …(Chinese New Year is not a national holiday in Thailand-but Songkran is.)
Thailand has 16 official Public Holidays, along with several regional and local celebrations. The holidays range from traditional, global events such as New Years to traditional Thai events such as Magha Puja (which commemorates the Budda’s teachings) to modern, Royal holidays such as Chakri Memorial day (in honour of the founding of Bangkok in 1782.)
The Thai New Year falls on April 13 and the Songkran festival runs for several days. Coronation day falls on May 5 to honour the current King, Bhumibol Adulyadej. There are a series of Summer holidays including Royal Ploughing Day along with Buddhist celebrations for the Thai Lunar Month.
In honor of the late King Chulalongkorn, the country honors his memory on October 23.The country celebrates the Queen’s birthday on August 12, along with the King’s on December 5. Constitution day marks the modern constitutional government, dating back to December 10, in 1932. National Holidays are social events, and generally allow employees a reprieve from work.
There are also a number of observances, which are followed, but aren’t considered national holidays, such as Civil Service Day, etc.
