Vacation in Australia?

Question by sriprada k: Vacation in Australia?
I’m going to Australia for a month to visit some relatives. My husband and me are planning a small 5 day holiday there in April. Our options are Cairns/the great Barrier reef and Fiji Islands. We do not drive- and hence reliant on public transport/cabs , etc. Which one of these two would you recommend?

That depends on what you are looking to do. Cairns is a happening town with lots of good pubs and activities to do plus the Great Barrier Reef is amazing. Fiji is of course beautiful too but is far more casual. I went scuba diving and snorkeling in both places and at least from what i saw the GBR was better, although that is purely my opinion and i’m sure others feel differently.

You’ll find there’s a lot more to do in and around Cairns and it’s all geared to tourists who don’t have their own transport. The reef and rainforests are beautiful and easily accessible by tour groups and there are dozens of other things to do and see. You should also be aware that the political situation in Fiji is unstable and is always simmering with the possibility of effects on tourists and you won’t have any problems of that nature in Cairns.
