Traveling from Australia to NZ for holiday with Italian Passport?

Question by d[-_-]b: Traveling from Australia to NZ for holiday with Italian Passport?
Am i able to travel to NZ from Australia with my Italian passport and back home again?

The reason i ask is because i am leaving on the 23rd of june and my Australian passport has expired, but since i have a duel citizenship i was hoping to use my Italian passport and not go through the hassle (and money) of getting my Australian passport renewed.

If you use your Italian passport to go to New Zealand you will need to get a visa.

When returning to Australia they will question as to why you didn’t use your Australian passport and you could have problems here.

A passport lasts 10 years and since you’d be up for the cost of a visa, you should just renew your passport. But since you left it so late you will have to pay extra to rush it so you get it on time.

Italy is a visa free country for visiting New Zealand, so if you’re travelling an an Italian passport, you can go to NZ and stay there for up to 3 months without getting a visa.

Your BIG problem will be in re-entering Australia. If you’re travelling on an an Italian passport, you MUST get an eVisitor or some other tourist visa to enter Australia and you will have to leave before the visa expires. If you enter Australia on a foreign passport, you are subject to the rules relating to that foreign passport and having Australian citizenship makes no difference.

You will have to renew your Australian passport or you are open to some REALLY major hassles. Pay the extra to have the renewal fast tracked (best option) or have it renewed while you’re in NZ.
