Q&A: Where is the best place to go to in Australia on a one year working visa holiday?
Question by Sarah: Where is the best place to go to in Australia on a one year working visa holiday?
I am 21 from Dublin. I plan to get a one year working visa to Australia with my boyfriend. I am just wondering which part/ city in Australia would be best to go to for work and entertainment and which part would be cheap enough for living expenses like rent for example?

I am a fan of melbourne for many reasons, weather will be bearable for you too, northen cities reach 40plusC reguarly. It is much much cheaper then sydney, though i am not up on brisbane.
melbourne has a nice environment, great transport system and nice nightlife, although it has many places and great entertainment, it is not as big as sydney and therefore doesnt have as much.
i found brisbane boring when i was there, not much happening, though the gold coast and places surrounding brisbane are very nice.
reading back on this answer its not to helpful. but a move to any of these cities will take alot of research, you need to be very well informed and know exactly what you want from a city before you move. Just remember too, flights out of any of these cities to others (for holidays etc,) is very cheap. you can get flights from as little as 5cents or as much as 0, but you can get flights regularly for each way.

You don’t necessarily need to think of only one place. If i remember right from what i have heard, you cannot work for the same employer for longer than 3 months (correct me if i am wrong). You could for example work 3 months in Melbourne, 3 months in Sydney, and maybe 3 months up in north Queensland. You’d see and experience more and you’d have one month for travelling to other places in Australia. I’ve met people who worked in a few places on the coast, 3 months each, and then 3 months in the outback. Generally, the further north, and inland you go, the cheaper gets renting, but buying food from large supermarkets in cities is cheaper than the small country town grocery shops.
