Look- head for Brisbane and it’s suburbs, it is comparatively affordable to other places, has a innovative and vibrant edge and is modern and free spirited. Queensland is all about outdoor life anyway with superb beaches and exclusive mountain hideaways. As well as property and rents even fruit, veg and beer are cheaper !

My advice would be to look at either the Gold Coast or Sunshine Coast…both are only an hour from Brisbane , are cities in their own right with all facilities & have some of the best beaches in the country..

I will recommend Cairns. It is a good place to bring up kids and have access to shopping centers.
Seriousely, try Gold Coast – beautiful beaches, it’s not very big (only about 400,000 people) but you can find a great nightlife in Surfers Paradise (Gold Coast’s centre) and people are very nice and laid back too. I’ve been there in winter and the weather was still hot enough to go to beach and wear summer clothes. It might get a bit too hot in summer though. So I think that in Queensland Gold Coast is the city. But if you don’t have to go to Queensland I have to suggest you Sydney as I lived there for a couple of years and I absolutely loved it.
The Gold Coast for sure. You will love it The beaches are wonderful . The shopping is great plenty of competition so that keeps prices down. Plenty of backpacker hostels to start you off while looking around. Beautiful weather can get very hot in Summer the winters are perfect . Only 1 hour by train to Brisbane. Any amount of night life. The Gold Coast is a 57 kilometre stretch of sand sun and surf http://www.verygoldcoast.com.au/
The further North you go then you are getting into the Tropics and places north such as Cairns have 2 seasons a wet and a dry . The Dry season is the tourist season between April and September after September it becomes very humid and then the rains and possible cyclones come.
i would recommend for you port douglass. i live there now and it is beautiful, safe with really nice people. there is also a number of resturants and bars there. and they were all so fantastic. and its lovely, nice weather all year around. only bad thing is, is that it gets really boring there. i live there and i go to boarding school in Perth and i like the city… and i alsolike port douglas but it can get boring but the good thing is its close to cairns so you can always catch a bus or drive there…. i also recommend gold coast, briseban or cairns
good luck…
ps. queensland is the best place to stay in australia
I would say the Gold Coast, like most have said hahaha, It has its own Nightlife in Sufers and Brisbane only an Hours away too.
