Question by null and void: What do I need to travel to New Zealand from USA?
I am going to be visiting New Zealand, leaving from america. I have my valid passport. And I can prove that I have a return flight back to america. Will I need anything else in order to get through customs ok?

Take another type of ID with you also in case your passport is lost or stolen so you can prove you are you. Driver’s lic or State ID would work fine. A copy of your birth certificate also would be good.

    nothing.

US citizens have right of abode in new zealand.

You will be fine. Just don’t bring any food – things like fruit – into the country. You’ll wind up throwing it out. You will have to fill out a declaration card on the plane and turn that in to customs. Your baggage will also be x-ray’d after you pick it up from baggage and go through customs.

I don’t know what the other poster meant by “right of abode”. Sounds bogus to me. As a foreigner to New Zealand, you have no “rights”. You are only a visitor here.

Maybe a helpful hint: make quality color copies of your passport, birth certificate and driver’s license, and have them notorized, and be as careful to keep them close to you as any original documents!
