you can fly on united… but it might be a little expensive.

Qantas is the native Australian airline, and will probs get you there for less money.

Look into Singapore Airlines as well. Maybe they still have the nonstop flight JFK-Sin connecting there to Australia

an easy way to find out is to search on airline consolidators for your locations. You should be able to get an idea at http://flyairfares.com

QANTAS – JFK – LAX – Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane

    United – JFK – SFO/LAX – Sydney

    Singapore Airlines – JFK – Singapore – Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane/Perth/Adelaide

Thai Airways – JFK – Bangkok – Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide

    Cathay Pacific – JFK – HKG – Sydney/Melbourne/Brisbane/Perth/Adelaide/Cairns

Delta – New York – LAX – Sydney

Qantas is the only airline with a continuing flight number from NY to Sydney via LA which means it has a much shorter conection time than changing flight NO.
