Q&A: Is August a good time to holiday in Thailand?
Question by Lucy L: Is August a good time to holiday in Thailand?
Is August a good time to holiday in the Bangkok area of Thailand? I know that it is the rainy season around that sort of time but how bad does the rain affect activities and how long does it rain for at a time? (roughly)
Thank you!

Any time is a good time to go to Thailand. The monsoon can be beautiful and cleansing. And dramatic……..It can rain for a few hours or a few days….but just travel to where it is not raining.

August is during the rainy season (June-Oct.) but most of time when it rains it’s usually a quick heavy thundershower that passes fairly quickly. Most of the time the rain only last 30 minutes or so, but not always. July weather is similar to August weather in Bangkok and it’s only rained once here in the past few days and it’s been hot and sunny most of time.
This year is probably the best time to come in a long time and particularly now during the rainy season. Tourism is way down right now and hotel prices are the lowest they’ve been in years. The rain shouldn’t affect you too much and there’s plenty of things to do when it does rain.
During the monsoon it is not raining all the time. It rain usually in the late afternoon and generally last from 30 to 60 minutes.
I you want to travel to the South on the west coast ( Andaman ) you will almost certainly find rough sea.
In July and August the Indian Monsoon from South West is affecting most of Thailand: In the North ( Chiang Mai, Chiang Rai, Mae Hong Son ), in the center ( Bangkok, Ayutthaya, ) in the South-West ( Phang Nga, Phuket, Krabi ).
The part of Thailand which is not affected from this monsoon is the Gulf of Thailand. If you travel to Koh Chang, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Koh Samui, Koh Phangan and Koh Tao, you will find great weather and calm sea.
It is a rainy season, normally starting from June – August. Sometimes it rains all day, sometime it doesn’t. The traffic is terribly jammed when it rained in Bangkok, don’t know why?
It depend … if you wanna go around Bangkok, it would be ok cuz most of the places to visit will be indoor… but if .you wanna go out of BKK to enjoy beach or riding elephant at Ayuthaya, that would be not enjoyable for sure… … if you wanna get some more interesting Thailand information, try this http://www.discovery-thailand.com have a nice day
