Q&A: How much time do I lose flying from Los Angeles to New Zealand. (flights on my birthday)?

Question by Biltz: How much time do I lose flying from Los Angeles to New Zealand. (flights on my birthday)?
I am leaving LAX at 7.30pm USA time on the 5th of January and I arrive in Auckland, New Zealand on the 7th of January at 5.25am NZ time. My Birthday is on the 6th of January so I was wondering how long my birthday will technically be. Can anyone help out with how to solve this answer? The flight duration is 12 hours. Thanks

New Zealand’s time zone is 21 hours ahead of Los Angeles’s time zone (Pacific) for this time of year. So if you’re celebrating your birthday in New Zealand, you’ll go by that time zone. The time for the flight itself depends on where you’re laying over. It could be in Fiji, Australia, or any other location in the region. I am traveling to Auckland, New Zealand myself next week, and my flight stops in Fiji for a few hours. The flight from Los Angeles to Fiji is around 10 hours and the flight from Fiji to New Zealand is around 4 hours. So approximately 14 hours plus any layover time.
