Q&A: Holiday to america from australia?

Question by egnohno oigneiogn: Holiday to america from australia?
I was thinking about taking a holiday to the USA from Australia sometime in January 2011. How much money do you think it’ll cost in total, including air fares, accomodation, travel, food etc. I was thinking of visiting just 2-3 different states such as California and New York and maybe San Antonio?? This trip can take just about 3-4 weeks. I only need a rough estimate of the cost. Thanks.

Allow around AU$2,000 for return airfares. Can be more of less depending on where you depart in Australia, your arrival city in the US, and when you purchase your ticket.

Accommodation varies and depends on the type you want, but allow around AU$150 per night, but less if you want to stay in hostels.

Food, depends on whether you want to self-cater, eat in diners, or restaurants. But around AU$30 per day might be enough if you’re budgeting.

For train travel, check out the Amtrak website http://www.amtrak.com for schedules and prices.

You’ll also need money for entertainment, museums, in town travel, souvenirs etc.

You might want to get a guidebook to the US as this will give you all the information you’ll need on accommodation, prices, itineraries etc. Lonely Planet books are good, as are Rough Guides.

BTW San Antonio is a city in Texas, not a US state.

I think you should pick Miami over San Antonio!

well, maybe a one day stop there to see the Alamo! :)

    BREE, read the question again.
