Looking into buying a potted christmas tree…which kind should I get?
Question by Theatrical Violinist: Looking into buying a potted christmas tree…which kind should I get?
I’m looking at buying a small potted Christmas tree to take care of this holiday season (maybe 2-3 feet starting out, give or take a few inches).
I also have one cat at home (a bit over 11 years old).
I saw a potted tree that I really liked at Home Depot; it was a Norfolk Island Pine tree.
The only reason that I cannot buy the one I saw at Home Depot is that Norfolk Island Pine trees are poisonous to cats. So far, I haven’t seen very many potted trees in my area, but I haven’t really checked very many other places yet.
What type(s) of potted Christmas tree(s) should I look for? Which should I avoid?
Also, if you have any good tips for caring for a potted Christmas tree, could you please share?
Thanks a bunch!

A few years back I bought a rosemary bush trimmed in a Yule tree shape for a friend with limited space in her home. It smelled great, when the season was over she planted it behind her condo and now it’s quite large. Everyone around her uses it for cooking when they want fresh rosemary. It was also very, very cute! I think I bought it at Home Depot, too. Or maybe just out in front of the local market. Anyway, tiny little decorations and a tiny strand of lights made it just lovely on her table. Oh, and her cats didn’t bother it and the feral cats around my house don’t bother my rosemary bush in my herb garden, so that could work well for you if you’re open to it.
