Is it really expensive to have a holiday in Australia?
Question by Brittany D: Is it really expensive to have a holiday in Australia?
I’m thinking of having a gap year after high school, and I would LOVE to get a Visitor Visa for Australia so I can vist it and see how it is. So, I was wondering if it was extremly expensive to just have a short holiday.
Thank you :]
I live in the US if that helps any…

Have a look at www, wotif .com.au a good indication on there.
It is hard to answer this question as Australia is neither cheap nor expensive to visit – It is more expensive than Asian countries and South America – but slightly cheaper than the US and europe.
It also depends on what you want to do here and the level of comfort you want – If you want to stay in hotels your money wan’t last long but if you stay in backpacker accomodation it will be cheaper – another cheap option is to look at doing an exchange – like through “Rotary” or volunteering through “WWOOFERS” where you work on organic farms to pay for your board and I guess there would be other programes which you could access through “STAtravel”
If you do it as a backpacker instead of a standard tourist you can do it cheap. Stay at hostels instead of hotels, shared rooms but only $20 a night instead of $200. Travel by Greyhound coach instead of flying if you can handle it! There are lots of backpacker info/tour desks whihc can offer cheap tours and deals. Check out the Lonely Planet guide guide to Australia or their shoe-string guide to help plan your trip on a budget.
Yes it is more than expensive than the US. Simple things like a coffee will be almost double what you would pay in America.
But it’s not as expensive as other countries where you would need $10,000 AU for a couple of weeks.
