I’ve been reading up on getting a working holiday visa to Austrailia. Typical stay in Austrailia is 4months, but can be up to 12months. I’ve recently looked into companies/programs that provide housing (on site), meals & either 1 job the entire length of time or various jobs over the course of your stay. BUT I can only find these companies for other countries that don’t provide working holiday visas for people within the USA. Has anyone taken a working holiday in Austrailia? Any tips? Useful companies?

One of the conditions of an Australian Work and Holiday visa is that you can’t work for any employer for longer than 6 months. Add to that the fact that this is a huge and very varied country where working holiday makers tend to travel around a great deal, and you begin to see why you haven’t been able to find a company or program that will provide work for the whole 12 months. If there were such programs on offer, most people would arrive and find whatever was provided in advance would restrict their travel options too much and employers would very soon tire of people not turning up when they were expected. There is plenty of part time work in Australia and you really don’t need to pay for anyone to find it for you. We have an incredibly good network of backpacker hostels throughout the country and they’re a great source of info on where work is to be found.
