How much would it roughly cost for two people to go to North Island of New Zealand
and travel down to the south Island.

Look at jetstar and virgin. you can often pick flights up for less than 0 one way

Hiring a campervan or car is a good way to go but you should drop it off at Wellington so your not paying for it on the ferry then pick up another in Picton. Cost for one person on the ferry is about . get a flight out of Christchurch back to Sydney

you are lookign around 300 per person. to the northern part of nz (auckland)
with qantas that is, different airlines offer different prices.
and note that times of flight effect the price. if you are travelling peak hours, morning . they tend to be more expensive for the exact same seat.
for tours, depends what kind of tour you are looking for, adventure, relaxation.
and depends on your budget & expectations.
packages willl vary from wholesaler to wholesaler, best & chepaest way to find a package that is best for you, go to a travel agency and they will put you a package deal together including the flight fare. wich will be cheaper for you !
