The Calgary International Airport is just an hour and a half from Banff National Park and the Canadian Rockies. This website tells all
    http://www.canadianrockies.net/

  2. Stick with New Zealand… Canada is VERY far away!

The Rockies are quite visible from Vancouver, but they are closer to Calgary. I recommend flying in there and driving west.

i think you would be better off going to Calgary. the rocky mountains are much closer to Calgary then Vancover. and they are beautiful. you can stay in the rocky mountain house. i love it. its quite nice. enjoy your stay !!

  5. In October it is starting to get cold in the Rockies so bring some warm cloths. The drive from Vancouver through the Rockies to Calgary is approximately 12 hours. Very scenic. You can go through Kamaloops BC, or take another road that goes through Kelowna BC. I like the Kelowna route the best since it goes by a large lake system. Between Kelowna and Revelstoke there are some interesting places to stay. Further on you go through Golden and Banff. Banff/Chocrane are nice mountain towns , worth a day. I would set aside about 4 days and rent a car for the drive.

Vancouver is not in the Rockies but in the Coast and Cascade Mountains. The Rockies are almost 1000km to the east and consequently not visible from Vancouver, Carol L. Notwithstanding. The closest major city airport is Calgary.

My God! You may stay in the Rockies for as long as you want. Be aware that in some years the winter snows have already begun in late October and early November, but in that part of the continent winter cold snaps are often broken by thaws.

You could enjoy driving from Calgary to Vancouver, of course. You would among other things pass through the Okanagan, Canada’s premier wine-growing region, about which most of the rest of the world know’s little.

vancouver is a bit of a drive from the rockies, but I would still highly recommend going there anyway – it’s one of the most beautiful cities in the world and they know how to party. just stay away from the east end, too many druggies.

driving through the rockies in canada is unforgettable – a long drive, but very, very awesome. beware that in october and november there will be A LOT of snowfall and blizzards in the mountains and driving can be very scary at times. Actually I would not reccomend driving a long distance through the mountains in winter, I’ve done it many times and it was a bad idea. If you’re not used to icy roads and winter driving the rockies are NOT the place to learn. Cliffs, sharp turns, bad visibilty, distractions, icy roads and a six lane freeway of mostly semi-trucks.

Take the train. VIA Rail from Vancouver to Calgary – hands down one of the best trips I ever took. You can sit back and relax, totally safe, you can stand up and walk around, eat and drink lots, get a good nights sleep and meet cool people. It is waayyy more enjoyable than driving.
