Do I need an outbound flight when flying to New Zealand?
Question by pfeds: Do I need an outbound flight when flying to New Zealand?
I’m going to New Zealand backpacking. I don’t know how long I’ll want to stay there for or where I’ll go. As such I don’t want to book an outbound flight. Will I have any trouble with immigration?
Yep, I should mention I’m British.

All travellers who are visa exempt are supposed to show evidence of onward travel arrangements and sufficient funds to stay.

yes, you may well not be allowed in without a ticket out.
no problem though, book a changeable ticket. You can usually change date at no charge and return airport for some money, although NZ is not so huge that you can’t easily get back to where you started from. It will almost certainly be either Auckland or Christchurch anyway.
