Crime rates between Australia and New Zealand?

I really don’t understand. People in New Zealand seem to complain more about crime than they do in Australia. Yet, the crime rates are lower in NZ. But Australia seems to hide its high murder rate whereas New Zealand puts a murder on front page news. Look in a kiwi paper and a murder will be on the front. Look in an aussie paper and there will be a couple of murder sqeezed into the back of the paper.
i mean, new zealanders stop complaining! I live in nz and on the holidays I holidayed on the gold coast and there was a shooting murder just down the road! Now I read there was a fatal stabbing on the gold coast? If that was in nz, it would be HUGE NEWs and people would be like “crime these days” but in aus they dont seem to care.
Why is this so?

We have a population of over 20 million New Zealand has 4 million. I think you may find New zealands crime is rather high for it’s population. Australia certainly does care . we have such a lot of different papers here several for each state and they do publish what happens in their area. but with a much bigger population and a much bigger country we have a tremendous amount of news. including world news but We could never print everything the papers would be to big to be delivered.
