Cheapest Flight to Australia/New Zealand this summer?

Question by hii!: Cheapest Flight to Australia/New Zealand this summer?
I’m horrible at finding flights. Could someone help me find a flight from the NYC area to New Zealand? Could fly from Newark, LaGuardia, JFK, or Philadelphia. Also it could be from one of those places to California, then to New Zealand from California. Anywhere from June 21st to early-mid august. Probably July would be best. We wanna go for 2-3 weeks. Also when you search, maybe incorporate a beach vacation in Australia for part of it? Then from Aus to NZ. Thanks! I wonder if all this flying is possible for under 00.

Try booking sites such as Travelocity or Lastminute.com : they compare instantly air tickets from different airlines and offer you the best deals.

The best ones are listed here: http://www.willgoto.com/1/023798/liens.aspx

    Use the multi-destination (multistop) option:
    for instance:
    1. JFK – Auckland
    2. Auckland – Sydney
    3. Sydney – JFK

Try http://www.kayak.com and look at fares.
I’ve flown NZ to US and back several times. Here’s my process: First, I find the lowest rates on the Los Angeles to Auckland route (and to be honest, V Australia is usually the lowest cost airline for that. Another upside to this for you, is that you do stop in Sydney and you could fly from there to the Gold Coast or elsewhere for a beach vacation. Check out V Australia’s website and be sure you set it to the USA before you start checking prices.) Then, you could fly back to Sydney and on to Auckland. The second part of this equation is simply finding the cheapest domestic flight from New York to Los Angeles, one that gets you into LA a few hours before your trans Pacific flight leaves.

Sadly there is just no way you can do all the flying you want for under $1000, even in economy. LA to Auckland (round trip) will likely cost around $1200, and you will also spend several hundred dollars flying across the US. And, not to mention the extra money for the beach vacation in Australia.

You do realize that June-July-August are winter months in New Zealand, right?
