Can I use my Australian drivers license (green P’s) to drive in New Zealand?

Question by gbhall: Can I use my Australian drivers license (green P’s) to drive in New Zealand?
I have a New Zealand learners drivers license, however I’m wondering if I can use my Western Australian “Provisional Licence” (last/green stage) instead as it has no restrictions here in Australia and I’m allowed passengers.

So what’s better to use whilst on holiday in NZ?
Actually I have a restricted drivers license, but the no passengers rule still applies.

Seems I can get around this with my Australian license (even though it was obtained in Australia based on my NZ restricted license – a bit of a loophole.)

Yes you can. When in doubt you can take a taxicab.

Yes you can. NZers use our licences in Aus too.

Yes, you can use your licence but if you are thinking of renting a car, check with the car rental firm ahead of time. You might find that they don’t hire to provisional drivers or that they charge you more for the insurance.
