British national too old for a working holiday visa, Australia?
Question by Calypso Carol: British national too old for a working holiday visa, Australia?
My friend is too old for a working holiday visa (>30) and is not looking to migrate. He is an IT professional and only wants to be in Australia for about 3-4 months but wants to be employed full time during that period. The Australian immigration website only seems to show info for their working holiday visa and for people who are planning permanent residency. Is there are middle way? What sort of visa should he get, does he need to find a job here before he arrives, does his employer have to sponsor him?

His only option is to come on a sponsored temporary skilled work visa (subclass 457), but he would have to find an approved employer to sponsor him and it’s unlikely that he could get one to do so for only 3 or 4 months. There’s quite a bit involved and it simply wouldn’t be worth it for either party.
