Hi My name is BEN from Siem Reap-Angkor Cambodia. I am working in a Travel Industry (www.umbrellatours.com) usually taking care of clients who need help such as what is your question about. Ok, to answer your questions is beside clothes & ug spray then make sure that you have suncream, lotion, long sleeve shirt, sunglasses because now the weather is too hot (In Cambodia) but it would be a little bit cold in the early morning on the way to see Sunrise at Angkor Wat. Also if you can bring the tablets of malaria, or diarrhea, from your country would be great because in Cambodia there are lots of FAKE tablets in here and they are useless. But all of these about not often happen. But better to have it just in case.
Wish you with all the BEST

Q&A: Can you claim tax back from a working holiday in new Zealand?
Question by Becky K: Can you claim tax back from a working holiday in new Zealand?
I have been working in New Zeland on a casual basis under my 1 year working visa. When we did this in Australia after we had left we were able to claim back all of the tax we had paid whilst we were there. Do you know if you can do the same thing after leaving New Zeland and if so how?
Thanks

Answer by Flixy
If you were here for less than 183 days then you are classed as a New Zealand non-resident employee and you should be able to get your income tax back (so long as you paid the correct amount of tax to Inland Revenue when you were here). Naturally there are lots of forms you have to fill out.

Any reason to try to visit any of the subantarctic islands south of New Zealand?
Question by trekster23: Any reason to try to visit any of the subantarctic islands south of New Zealand?
Hey all, This fall I will be be studying abroad in New Zealand and I am trying to figure out some interesting locations that I can visit while I’m there. Anyway I came across these subantarctic islands (Campbell, Auckland, etc.) that seem to be very unique and interesting so I’m considering trying to visit one of them. Now first off, especially if any of you have been to the islands, is there enough reason to take time to go there in the first place? And secondly, I realize they’re not particularly easy to get to. If my research is correct, government permits and escorts are needed, and you obviously need a boat to get there. So is it even reasonable to think that I would be able to visit the islands? And if so, how would I go about getting to the islands? Are there any type of agencies that offer some type of tour or excursion to the islands?
Thanks!
Best answer:
Answer by Tainruadh
Why did you ask this question in Australia?
I’ve been close to the islands on fishing vessels and I would love the opportunity to go. You need to contact the Department of Conservation who administer the islands. You can get there in two ways, you can go on a guided tour and its really expensive, or you can volunteer with the Department but your chances are kind of slim getting there that way.

Im planning to send a package with holiday gifts?
Question by jsophiaon: Im planning to send a package with holiday gifts?
and i want to know what can and cant i send and should i take the tags of clothes and things like that. Im sending them to australia from the usa. Can i send cosmetics and things like that . I know you cant send food and obvious things. But what can and cant I send? Also what is the best method to send these gifts.
Best answer:
Answer by junebug
You can gift wrap them even as long as you state on your shipping form what’s in the package and the cost. Just make sure you pack items in a snug fitting box – no string, use good quality packing tape, and enclose the address on the inside of the package as well as a return address. – write address with thick black marker neatly You can send almost any gift item – household items, cosmetics (forget spray bottles) – I wrap them in plastic first – nothing flamable like lighters. Clothing, paper goods – chocolates/candy. There is a list of items which you likely can’t import into their country on their customs site. There is also a site for importing into the US on their Customs site. You can also obtain a list from the border customs.

Q&A: summer in canada??!!! travel/ visa/ job help?
Question by Amy G: summer in canada??!!! travel/ visa/ job help?
Hey there, basically im trying to sort out a summer working in toronto. everywhere i look all i come accross are these overpriced packages for £600+ to help you get your visa and a job there but i know that there is a wayy cheaper way of doing it. Ive seen the guidelines on working in canada and it says that you have to have a confirmed job in canada before you go. is this definately the case? and if so, how easy is it to get a job in toronto? and how could i go about getting one from here without using one of these package things?
i had a working holiday visa in australia and got a job no problem but ive read that its harder in canada. im planning on coming around the end of may until september before i go back to university.
any advice would be really good. (im from northern ireland by the way)
thanks!!!

Suggestion for New Zealand Holiday Activities?

I and my family will be visiting New Zealand for three weeks end of this year, and we’re planning to drive from Auckland to South Island, and then fly from Christchurch back to Auckland. Would appreciate recommendations for the must-see, must-do and must-stay in NZ!

Answer by jennifer h
Leaving Auckland go to Taupo Huka falls and Waitomo Caves. If Rotorua appeals to you then go there as well. You could drop the car off in Wellington and spend a couple of days there then pick up another car in Picton that way you don’t pay for the car on the ferry. While in Wellington take the cable car which is in a lane off Lambton Quay and when at the top you will see the Views of Wellington and take a stroll through the Botanical gardens. also Te Papa museum. When in Picton go over the hill on the right hand side when coming into Picton this is Queen Charlotte Sounds and drive to Nelson out to Motueka and on to Kaiterteri beach it’s beautiful out there. If you have time in the South Island drive down the West Coast through Franze Joseph and Fox Glacier to wanaka and Queenstown. While in Taupo you could stay at DeBretts where there is hot pools http://www.google.com.au/url?sa=t&source=web&cd=2&ved=0CB4QFjAB&url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.taupodebretts.com%2F&ei=PMQWTJvPF8qHkQWl6aGdCw&usg=AFQjCNF73yYXlcaa_gPLYl9A1GDEelS4sA Spend one week North Island and 2 weeks South Island

Q&A: Getting around in New Zealand for working holiday?
Question by Diego G: Getting around in New Zealand for working holiday?
and i’m planning my first trip there doing volunteer farm work like wwoof or helpx.net… this is where you go to different hosts homes and help them out in exchange for accomodation/meals
it looks like i’ll be in new zealand in late november staying till febuary, and i’ll be going it alone, so i’m gonna have to do a lot of research. for now, i was wondering if you can give me some tips on getting around over there. i’m planning on visiting at least a hand full of different hosts, but it would be kinda hard if i couldn’t get my way out of the auckland airport!
so i’ve been considering buying a cheap car while i’m there… and then selling it before i leave. could this be feasable? are there any resources you might know of? i guess i have to do something like that, as i wouldn’t want to burden any of my hosts by having them pick me up from bus stations and such.
any websites, articles, or resources of any kind would be greatly appreciated .
Best answer:
Answer by N B
Just came back from living in NZ for 3 months. Getting around in NZ is easy.
Most people in NZ are crazy friendly and go the extra mile – if you’re a volunteer backpacker, chances are they’ll have no problems picking you up at bus stations. But if you want more advice…
Some thoughts on buying a car: You’ll end up paying a lot for gas. It’s expensive there (but I’m American). I know a lot of people who sold their cars for more than they bought it for. The trick is to buy a car off someone who NEEDS to sell before they leave the country. Everyone’s friendly, so if you talk to someone selling their car, figure out their situation and leverage it.
In Auckland, there’s http://www.backpackerscarmarket.co.nz/ and also http://www.trademe.co.nz (NZ’s ebay equivalent). And if you stay in ACB or Base or a major Auckland hostel (or heck, any hostel) there are postings for cars-for-sale.
ALSO – important: if you’re going to the South Island, it costs a TON to put your car on the interislander ferry. It usually makes sense to sell it in Wellington, and buy a new one in Picton or wherever you end up. Especially if you’re traveling alone.
Other options to get around:
Cheap options:
1) If you know where you’re going – the absolute cheapest way to go is to book early on www.nakedbus.com. It’s not fancy, but you can go between major towns/cities for if you book soon enough.
2) You can TOTALLY hitchhike in New Zealand. People are hesitant to recommend it for obvious reasons, but I’m telling you from experience: it’s VERY safe. Heck, I know people who ended up getting taken in, fed, and put up for a night!
3) In hostels, there are postings of other travelers looking for company in their cars (to save on gas). Chances are you’ll make great friends with these people. You’ll see that’s how NZ works.
Moderate options:
4) Intercity Bus is basically you’re standard bus service. It’s semi-cheap, and boring – but it’ll get you around.
Expensive
5) Kiwi Bus and Stray Bus tours are awesome if you need to get around – they’re pricey however, but you can hop and off, complete your journey in Auckland/Christchurch (wherever you fly out of), meet people, see the country, and have a great time. Kiwi = party. Stray = slightly less party.
I just got back from 10 countries, and none were as easy as NZ to get around in. So, no worries. This is a long response… heh, you’re lucky I’m bored!

new zealand skiing season?
Question by Davo: new zealand skiing season?
I’m from Australia, i am planning to go skiing in New Zealand next winter (2010). I have never been there before. My only available holiday is from 29th Jun to around 15th July.
On the websites, most of the NZ ski resorts say the season starts around 28th June. This is what they say, but i know for example, Australian resorts like Thredbo, say their season starts on first weekend of June, but most of us know that 9 out of 10 years, there won’t be good snow (if any at all) until well into July. Is New Zealand the same?
Is it worth taking the risk of paying for a trip to New Zealand in early to mid July or is there a high risk of there not being any snow and my money wasted?
Thanks for your replies
Best answer:
Answer by Crikey a Wild Ski Bum
New Zealand is the same, it’s pretty much just man-made snow with the occasional light dusting of snow at that point unless they’re really lucky.
Also, I think there’s a kiwi student holiday around the 10th – 20th of July, so it’s extremely crowded. I wouldn’t really bother going til after July 25th unless you want to ski either crappy snow or just one or two runs (sometimes both!). Later August is probably the best time

Im booking flights to australia and on the return I want to stop in Bangkok. I have previously visited Bangkok but unfortunately our time there was rather limited and involved replacing my friends passport. Really want to visit again so was wondering if its possible to book flights to australia and choose to have a few days stop over because i have found flights with stop overs in hong kong/ Bangkok but only for a few hours.

Answer by SK
You will need to go to a travel agent (eg. flight centre) for this. Online bookings will only allow you to do a straight flight with a few hours stopover. It shouldn’t change the price too much.

Answer by Warren S
Vanuatu is a great place to have a holiday. The people are amongst the most friendly on Earth. I was there last month and spent 7 great days at Le Lagon near Port Vila. The snorkeling near Hideaway Island is tops and make sure that you do the around the island tour of Efate island where you will most likely be staying. One thing to remember however is that the rainy season is from December through April.

Contiki Holidays – New Zealand 2010
This video was shot with the Kodak ZX3 Play-Sport HD Camcorder and documents how I amongst many other incredible people from all over the world received the amazing opportunity to visit the mind blowing New Zealand. This was truly the land of stunning natural beauty, action-packed activities & laid back culture. We kicked off this trip in the Bay of Islands & tried parasailing as well as just chilled out with our new contiki crew! We also headed deep into the underground caves of Waitomo experience black water rafting before hitting Rotorua to try the Zorb or skyline gondola & ended the day relaxing in a Polynesian thermal pool. I was then able take in the beautiful view from the top of Lake Taupo’s famous Taupo Bungy set-up before plummeting 47m off of that same deck, many others also did the Rock n Ropes course & headed to the land of the Lord of the Rings, Wellington, where I was fortunate enough to catch a John Mayer concert along with couple of friends. Finally, the good times came to a sad but to be continued end for me in Christchurch where I had to leave everyone before they headed deeper south to explore the rest of the beautiful country. The song featured in the clip is entitled “Kings and Queens” by 30 Seconds to Mars from their album “This Is War” and is copyright 2009 Virgin Records America Inc.

Q&A: Looking for a cheap holiday in Australia/America or anywhere else that you recommend?
Question by Tracey<3: Looking for a cheap holiday in Australia/America or anywhere else that you recommend?
OK, so, this year I really want to go on a nice holiday away from the UK like Australia or America.
I’m looking for an “extreme” holiday (I’d like to bungie jump and similar things), somewhere where you can’t get bored and even if you don’t want to have everyday planned in advance, there’s still lots to do in the area. We would want to rent a car, and it would preferably be for 10-14 days.
Please can you post me some links to some websites where you can book online.
Thanks a bunch.
Best answer:
Answer by Mel
Australia is a huge country, so 10 – 14 days wouldn’t really let you see much, nor are we the extreme capital. You could go diving or do a bridge climb or sky diving.
But I would go to New Zealand, it is a bit cheaper as their dollar sucks more then ours. In Queenstown you have heaps of extreme sports including the worlds biggest bungy, jet boating, etc..
If you stick to the south island you could easily do it in 10 days.

If a flight leaves New Zealand at 7:15pm, what time will it arrive in Chicago, Illinois?
Question by Arianna: If a flight leaves New Zealand at 7:15pm, what time will it arrive in Chicago, Illinois?
I have a friend that had spring break in New Zealand with his family. But New Zealand has a 17 hour ahead time difference. If his flight left at 7:15pm on Friday, what time will he arrive in Chicago, Illinois?
Best answer:
Answer by Dan
It is difficult to say from the data given, since there is no non-stop service from Wellington, and there is no 7:15 PM departure from Christ Church or Wellington that makes a “normal” connection to Chicago. There are hundreds of purmutations that are possible as far as flights are concerned. It would help to know what airline they are flying or how they are going.

Bill English: Minister of Finance
Finance Minister Bill English today said it would ultimately be up to taxpayers to decide whether today’s job summit in Auckland was a “talk-fest or a do-fest”. Mr English, who delivers his first Budget on May 28, said the ideas put forward amounted to a “giant pre-Budget brainstorm”. He has previously said tough conditions, which are here to stay, will inform his decisions. Mr English said today that the summit “scares the hell out of bureaucracy” but he was happy to see business take a leadership role, something which hasn’t always happened in the past. Of the many proposals put forward, “some of them we’ll do and some of them we won’t be able to do”. However, as the recession gets worse, the Government will need every idea available, he said. He did not specifically spell out how taxpayers would be able to give their verdict on the summit. ‘Pet topics’ Meanwhile, a union leader has claimed company bosses are using today’s the event to put forward some of their “pet topics” on workers’ rights. National Distribution Union secretary Laila Harre said one business leader had suggested extending the 90-day probationary period for new jobs and another had proposed reducing entitlements under the Holidays Act. She said unions had been “spread far too thinly” at today’s conference but they had still managed to get some “silly ideas” rejected. “Some people from the business community are putting forward pet topics,” Ms Harre said. Her comments came after Prime Minister John Key …

What would be an ideal place for a holiday?
Question by Vic: What would be an ideal place for a holiday?
My family is looking to go on a holiday soon…we want to go in between two weeks’ and about six week’s time…some time within those dates.
We’re looking for a package deal that will be the best value for money – we can spend between 00-10000 New Zealand Dollars (We live in NZ) but want to spend as little as we can.
Ideally, we want to go somewhere that is hot because it’s very cold here at the moment. My mum and I are also really keen for a cultural experience, like going somewhere in Asia or the Middle East.
So, do you know of any places that are hot, unusual but also cheap? The money we have needs to pay for airfares, accomodation, sight seeing and spending money.
Thanks!

Best answer:
Answer by No
If your planning to stay more than 30 days then yes you need a visa. You can go to the Thai consulate nearest you and apply for a tourist visa which is good for 60 days. Starting 1 April tourist visas will be free (no cost). After you are in Thailand you can go to immigrations and apply for a 30 day extension of your tourist visa this will cost you 1,900 baht and give you your 90 days here in Thailand.

Need to send my mother on an all inclusive holiday?
Question by SmEllY!: Need to send my mother on an all inclusive holiday?
Why? Because I promised. I don’t know when I am supposed to do it. She has NEVER been out of the country (we live in Australia), although she wasn’t the most attentive mother I owe her a lot, we wouldn’t have got by so easily without her when we unexpectedly had our first child at 20 years old, she bought us a house to live in, then she completely paid it off and has given half to me and half to my brother (he lives in it). So my problem is I need to get her a holiday but I don’t know when I am supposed to fulfil this promise… Should we get it out of the way first or should we get married and buy a house before worrying about the holiday gift? She is 53 years old and I am worried that when she is 60+ she wont have so much energy. She also just got married to her third husband. At this moment we *could afford to send the two of them on a week holiday in Bali, however I told her I wanted to send her to Greece, and I still do, but we just cant afford it right now and I am not sure when we will be able to. What do you think we should do? Send her on the cheaper holiday now or hold off and maybe eventually afford a trip to greece?
My mum also owns two houses of her own and has ,000 in the bank so I am also trying to figure out how high on her priority list a holiday really is being as she has money yet has never taken one…
Best answer:
Answer by Garrick W
well, i wouldn’t consider using her own money for her own holiday, have you ever considered some of that money is for you? the best thing i would say, is that she OBVIOUSLY REALLY loves you, and has set you up for live, the trip to greece will come in time.Just make sure she knows your thankful, and make sure she is happy as well as the rest of the family

Q&A: Can I travel / see all of New Zealand on a moped / scooter?
Question by Ben Larocque: Can I travel / see all of New Zealand on a moped / scooter?
I plan to travel New Zealand on a 50cc moped. I know that I cannot travel on motorways, but can I still get from one place to another using back roads and such?
I want to see the entire country and I am willing to spend the time taking the back routes to avoid motorways, I just don’t know if it’s possible.
Also, is this safe?
I would prefer that only New Zealanders answer this question.
Thanks!
Best answer:
Answer by jennifer h
People do it with bicycles so I guess so but you have a lot of hills especially Wellington and parts of the South island so I guess those hills would be very hard on the motor thats if the moped would get up them.

Answer by mstess
I’d recommend a GAP tour. Half of the people on the tours will be single. You don’t pay extra to travel alone, they will pair you up with someone of the same sex, unless you want to pay a single supplement.
They have different styles of tours. You can camp, backpack, or go on a “comfort” tour which will be 3-4 star hotels. People from all over the world, and all different ages will typically be on a tour.
We did a 24 day camping safari in Kenya and Tanzania. The group ranged from mid twenties, up to 60 years old. There were Americans, Canadians, Australians, British, and Italians.
We are doing another GAP tour to Egypt in March, this time a comfort tour. The group’s maximum is 15 people.

Working Holiday to New Zealand — should I buy (then sell) a car?
Question by Yamplier A: Working Holiday to New Zealand — should I buy (then sell) a car?
and i’m planning my first trip there doing volunteer farm work like wwoof or helpx.net… this is where you go to different hosts homes and help them out in exchange for accomodation/meals
it looks like i’ll be in new zealand in late november staying till febuary, and i’ll be going it alone, so i’m gonna have to do a lot of research. for now, i was wondering if you can give me some tips on getting around over there. i’m planning on visiting at least a hand full of different hosts, but it would be kinda hard if i couldn’t get my way out of the auckland airport!
so i’ve been considering buying a cheap car while i’m there… and then selling it before i leave. could this be feasable? are there any resources you might know of? i guess i have to do something like that, as i wouldn’t want to burden any of my hosts by having them pick me up from bus stations and such.
any websites, articles, or resources of any kind would be greatly appreciated .
Best answer:
Answer by dscougar
I did this last winter (well, summer in NZ), and I definitely recommend buying and reselling a cheap car- especially if you are going to be wwoofing.
Public transportation from city to city by bus or boat or train is affordable and feasible, but it can be very difficult to get from the city center to anywhere else in the town, suburbs or general region. Many wwoofing hosts prefer that you have your own transportation, and this will make your experience much more flexible.
There are two major backpacker car markets in Auckland, and at least one in Wellington, so if you are starting in either of these cities, ask around for them. The salespeople are actually very honest, and you can get an independant check of a car by a mechanic for before you buy it. All the insurance and title transfer can be taken care of easily and cheaply at the same location, and they will help you sell your car when you leave too. It worked out really well for me and my companions.
A lot of people buy backpacker buses so they can sleep cheaply at campgrounds instead of in hostels, but if you are staying mostly in homes anyhow, I would go for a small car- any money you might have to pay in rent or hostel fees will be more than made up by the difference in gas money.
The other great thing about buying a car is that you can take on other backpackers as passengers- you won’t have to pay for gas, and you will always find yourself in friendly (if excentric) company.
Have a great time! Good luck! Wwoof in the Marlbourough Sounds if you can!

What Services Should I Expect From A Flight To Australia ?
Question by Lee!: What Services Should I Expect From A Flight To Australia ?
In july i am intending to fly to australia because its a long flight i was just wondering what to expect. Will there be any tv, power points,WIFI. I will be flying economy for about £1100 if this makes any difference and probably with royal brunai.
Best answer:
Answer by dingo60
Check the airlines website or ring up their office closest to where you live and ask them.
I would expect at a minimum plenty of food and inflight movies. I found this on their website (http://www.bruneiair.com/):
”Economy Class Comfort
Economy Class in the retrofitted B767 aircraft offer seats with a 32-inch pitch, adjustable footrests and “winglet” headrests for improved neck comfort. The 8.4 inch personal TV provides on-going entertainment including audio and video on-demand choices.
All Royal Brunei passengers enjoy the same caring service from our ASEAN flight attendants, along with skillfully prepared meals and a wide range of inflight entertainment options to choose from. That’s economy with class. That’s Royal Brunei.
Retrofitted seats are only available on certain flights and routes. For more information, please contact Royal Brunei Airline”
and then this:
“SkyShow Inflight Entertainment
To complement the new seats, Royal Brunei has installed its new SkyShow personal inflight entertainment system in the entire cabin. SkyShow, offers a new level of service with 17 video on-demand selections, five broadcast video channels, 10 games, more than 150 compact discs audio-on-demand and 15 channels of continuous audio entertainment in a variety of languages. More options will be added in the future.
This month movies features National Treasure: Book of Secrets, The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep, The Golden Compass, The Great Debaters, Bella, Goodbye Bafana, Mama’s Boy, The savages, etc.
You are welcome to download our screening schedule of all flights, movie and music channels guide for this month.
Skyshow is only available on our retro-fitted B767s and on selected routes. For more information, please contact your nearest Royal Brunei Airlines office.”

Q&A: where should i go in new zealand for 5-7 days holidays ?
Question by eagertoknow: where should i go in new zealand for 5-7 days holidays ?
i only have about 5-7 days to go to new zealand for holidays, i’ve never visited nz before. where should i go first ? auckland/christchurch/queenstown/other place ? what is the best thing to do in nz. any recommendation ? thanks !
Best answer:
Answer by ▐▀▀♥▀▀▌ ♥Nicluva♥ ▐▄▄♥▄▄▌
5-7 days isn’t very long. You might want to stick to the North Island. The South Island is a more longer trip in it’s on and it’s akward to do both Islands in such a short time. But the South island would be a better place to focus on if you had lots of time. But you may not come back here again? But you’d wanna stick to one Island i reckon.
The milford sound would be the best thing, i remember reading it was ranked the top destination by trip advisor.
If you reckon you won’t have this opportinty again i would go to the South Island as it defently has the best scenary.
Fly into Christchurch. Spend like a day there doing atrractions probbaly mainly wildlife. I’m assuming you’re not here in summer so you won’t need to go up the mounts for that. You can head onto queenstown tyake your pick of some action and adventure activites then onto Milford sound, have a cruise of that, since you’re not here for long you can’t do the walking track of it. Head up to franz joesph check out the franz or joepsh glacier you can have a scenic flight or have a guided walk on them. Up to the top of the South island.. and you can do the Abel tasman walk or the Queen charlotte walk, take your pick, then head back down to Christchurch and on the way stop by Kaikoura for one of the best whale watching spots in the world.
Another idea is flying into Wellington, check out the musuem and then catch the ferry over to Piction, you could do the queen charlotte walk there, then head down to kaikoura, christchurch, queenstown.. etc like i mentioned above then from Franz, stop at greymouth and take the tranz scenic train (one of the best train journeys in the world) it’s quite scenic, and driving the South Island it’s self is scenic. I don’t think you’ll be making the most of it though as it’ll be quite rushed due to your time.
If you wanna opt for the North Island Fly into Wellington and check out the musuem. Have a 4 hours drive up to Rotorua/Taupo, there’s plenty of action and adventure options you can pick from, you can also check out the huka falls, the geothermals and have a maori culture experience, etc. Then head up to the waitomo caves and have a guided tour of them, then onto Auckland, where you can up the sky tower and walk along or jump off it, head out to the nearby islands to explore, etc.
The South island sounds more like the interesting option.
Maybe fly into Auckland spend a day there, next day go down to Rotorua stop by the waitomo caves along the way. Do some things there, the next day spend it at Rotorua and fly to Queenstown that night (pricey) then spend the next day there. (5thday) spend the day getting to and from milford and doing a cruise. The next check out the glaciers and the next morning then onto Greymouth and catch the train in the afternoon. Then the next day spend in Christchurch and do things there and fly our the next night. That’s quite rushed even with the 7 days and awkward.
Just some ideas that will cover the best things to do/places to see. Maybe one of them stands out more then the other options.

Any Itinerary suggestion for new years holidays destination in Thailand?
Question by danial_abdat: Any Itinerary suggestion for new years holidays destination in Thailand?
I am planning a backpacking trip with couple of mates to Thailand this new Years holiday. Any suggestions where to go, what to see and best places for photography?
Best answer:
Answer by Pauly 101
Try Northern Thailand. Use Chiang Mai as your base. Things are more reasonable there and although it is a big tourist destination, you’ll find plenty of local color and friendly people as well.
Spend New Year’s Eve in Chiang Mai around the Ta Pae Gate. It will be an unforgettable expierence. Everyone sends lanterns into the sky for good luck in the coming new year. Cost is about a couple of dollars.
Chaing Mai can be used as a base for your treks around northern Thailand. Hilltribes, Chaing Rai, The Golden Triangle, elephant trips are all within easy reach.
The temples in and around Chaing Mai are interesting. The main temple in the area, Doi Suthep, sits on a hill overlooking the city. Wat Pra Singh is the main temple within the old city walls.
For ruins, go down to Sukhothai.

Money for a New Zealand holiday?
Question by …leonie…: Money for a New Zealand holiday?
I was wondering how much money it would cost to go on a holiday to New Zealand – including flights, accommodation, car hire, petrol, food, spending money etc.
This is for two people, for two weeks sometime between end february – end june.
We’d want to travel around and go sightseeing, probably only on one of the islands. Mid range accommodation, occasional eating out, some activity fees, economy class flights. I do not want a holiday package as I want to go without being restricted by a schedule.
I was thinking maybe somewhere around 00 – 00 for the entire holiday… I was hoping someone who has done this or similar, or knows about these holidays could help me.
Thanks.

Answer by jennifer h
That should be plenty . You can do it cheaper of course if you look for the deals. Jet Star have had some bargain prices. Join there contact list and they send you emails when the special fares come out . Also join Virgins Pacific blue air NZ and Qantaas. End of february is a good time the weather should still be good . it can get bleak and miserably cold later. shop around on the web for accomodation most motels there have kitchens and shop around for a hire car as the rates vary also

Q&A: which bus company is the best and chepest to travel New Zealand?
Question by cutey23: which bus company is the best and chepest to travel New Zealand?
Which Bus company would be the best and cheapest to travel all of New Zealand? Why? Does anyone know of a good website to find the best hostels? How are the prices in New Zealand? I heard that it’s exspensive their.
Best answer:
Answer by Phil
Intercity does a flexi-pass that’s good value, or there are other buses that you can use in parts of NZ, e.g. Atomic Shuttles, Cook Connection, etc. Or there are hop-on, hop-off tours like Kiwi Experience and Magic Bus, but I think that would work out more expensive. I used a flexi-pass, plus a few trips with other operators.
The best websites for hostels are http://www.bbh.co.nz and http://www.yha.co.nz.

Will having a misdemeanor conviction prevent me from getting a New Zealand holiday work visa?
Question by sigepdave34: Will having a misdemeanor conviction prevent me from getting a New Zealand holiday work visa?
Does anyone having any experience with this or possibility work in immigration? The conviction is for a drunk and disorderly over 4 years ago. The charges have been dismissed but it still shows up on my record. At least it does with the state of California. I have to get a police certificate from the FBI but it takes about 8-10 weeks and I’m not sure what their records show. I want to book my flight for February 2010 but I don’t want to find out at the last minute they rejected my application.
Best answer:
Answer by johno
Hi. Have you already made an application and been told that you have to get a copy of your police records?
If not, I’m not sure where you have got your information from with regards to what you need to provide in order to obtain a working holiday visa. Assuming you are from the US you can apply for the visa on line. As working holiday visas are issued for less than 24 months you do not need to provide a police report. However, you do need to declare on the application form, any prior charges, convictions and/or whether you are under investigation. I’m not sure what you mean when you say you were convicted but the charges were dismissed?? Either you were convicted or the charges were dismissed – it can’t be both. Do you mean wiped by lapse of time?? A four year old charge that did not result in a conviction, or a conviction for a misdemeanor which has been wiped is unlikely to derail your application.
In any case, if you submit an online application you will receive a reply within days and so you can wait until you have the visa before booking your flights.

don’t swim in rivers in the north especially if you see a sign warning of crocodiles. beware of jellyfish if swimming at tropical beaches, ask the locals. apart from that the most dangerous species you are likely to come across are car drivers. oh, if you are at the beach in the south and you see a cute little octopus with blue rings in a rock pool – leave it the hell alone!!!

Is it safe for a female to holiday by herself in any of the Pacific Islands? If so, which ones?
Question by hacking is illegal: Is it safe for a female to holiday by herself in any of the Pacific Islands? If so, which ones?
Am from New Zealand & am tired of holidaying in Australia. I don’t want to go to Asia so that only leaves the Pacific Islands re a cheap holiday as travelling further afield than Asia is very expensive for us. I don’t have a boyfriend to travel with & my friends don’t have the funds to come with me so I wondered about lazing around on the beach on my own. Perhaps that wouldn’t be acceptable there? I might get unwanted male attention, or worse? When I say Pacific, I mean South Pacific so don’t recommend Hawaii as it’s too expensive re American dollars & the airfare. I’m meaning Islands more like Fiji, Samoa, Cook Islands, etc. I know Vanuatu is a bit more primitive so won’t be safe for a female alone and Tahiti & New Caledonia are very expensive. Am asking in this section as so many Aussies & NZers go to the Islands for holidays, have you been alone or seen women alone? I don’t want to go with a singles tour group either as it’s all just people sleeping around with each other!

If you book into a resort that has access to the beach, you will be more than safe at any of those islands – even Vanuatu which is pretty safe. I like Fiji beaches the best, so would recommend it! You can go out to an island which can be really pretty. Most resorts should organise airport transfers and also any trips you want to take once you are there. I think New Caledonia is the most developed so if you want to head into a city and not just lie on a beach it is good, however most of the people speak only French whereas other islands have a good grasp of English.
Have fun and stay positive – these places are generally safe and friendly
