Why is the calendar month of August the ONLY month in the USA without a designated holiday ?

Question by ladydeeluk: Why is the calendar month of August the ONLY month in the USA without a designated holiday ?
Keep in mind I am speaking for national or designated USA holidays that are not in the month of August. Why is that ? Serious answers only please.
Please be serious for history reasons. There are 12 calendar months and ONLY in the USA the month of August is absent of a National/Government obersed holiday. Why ?

Because August is hot and gross and no one wants to be outside celebrating. Unless you count school starting a holiday. However I’m pretty sure most people would disagree with you on that one.
