Victoria Day- The federal has a day off. That;s about it.
Canada Day- federal also has a day off. We have fire works at parlement hill and a big show. We drink a lot.
Commonwealth Day- We don’t celebrate that.
Thanksgiving- Some people have the day off but it’s mostly a catholic holliday so very few people celebrate it. But it’s always nice to have a week-end off in october.
National day of mourning- We don’t have that
Rememberance day- We have a parade in Ottawa on Elgin Street near the war monument and the unknowed soldier tomb. Other then that, each city has it’s military parade. And where I live, on a military base, it’s a bigger event. We have a parade and a ceremony with religius people and with poems. We sing the anthem and mourn at the “last post”

I’m not sure what country Artemis is from but I’m thinking it’s not Canada…

We do indeed celebrate Thanksgiving. It’s not a Catholic holiday. Everyone I know gets together with family/friends, eats ham and turkey and is generally a day to be thankful for all we have and the fact we live in this wonderful country.

We do have Remembrance Day. November 11. We remember those who have fought and continue to serve that we might be free! Thank you to all.

Victoria Day, Canada Day, Thanksgiving, and Remembrance Day are all statutory holidays. Government offices, banks, post office, etc will be closed, and in some places stores may be closed for the day or close up early (usually just in small towns).

Victoria Day is the first long weekend of the spring, and is a time when people will be out camping, opening up the cottage, taking part in softball tournaments, etc. It’s also the time of year that (in my part of the country, at least) we wait for until we begin planting in the gardens.

Canada Day is the celebration of the anniversary of Confederation. Celebrations will vary in each community, but can include parades, pancake breakfasts, concerts, fireworks, dances, etc. In smaller towns, again, many businesses will be closed.

Thanksgiving is the last long weekend of fall. It is not “mostly a Catholic holiday”, and is generally an occasion for a large family dinner. Churches (both Catholic and Protestant) may hold special services and/or banquets. Schools (usually elementary) may hold a function prior to the long weekend.

Remembrance Day is a day for honouring the men and women of our Armed Forces who have given their lives in the service of their country. Most communities will hold a service at the cenotaph, usually at or around 11AM which includes the laying of wreaths around the cenotaph.

Commonwealth Day and the National Day of Mourning are not observed as holidays in Canada.

Victoria Day: paid vacation day, drink beer
Canada Day: paid vacation day, bbq food, drink beer
Commonwealth Day: perhaps I am ignorant and this one falls under the category of one of those mondays we all have a paid holiday but nobody knows why
Thanksgiving: paid vacation day, cook turkey, drink beer, eat turkey
National Day of Mourning: (Is this supposed to be an alterante name for rememberance day?) If its not, falls under the same category as Commonwealth day.
Rememberance Day: There is usually a ceremony etc, to remember the troops that fought for our freedom, paid vacation day, drink beer.

Have you done any research on these at all? Or where did you get this list from?
Victoria Day is May 24 and is celebrated with community festivals and maypole dances.
Canada Day is July 1 and is celebrated with parades, fireworks and community festivals.
Commonwealth day is largely ignored except for essay writing.
Thanksgiving is in October and is celebrated exactly the same as in the US (turkey, pumpkin pie and eating too much)
National day of mourning is not a Canadian holiday
Remembrance Day is marked with solemn military services at the cenotaph in each city across the country, and by the laying of wreaths.
