Which DAY is titled “Black” in the USA Economy – that marks THE BUSIEST SHOPPING DAY of each calendar year?
Question by chasvanblom: Which DAY is titled “Black” in the USA Economy – that marks THE BUSIEST SHOPPING DAY of each calendar year?
Each Christmas holiday shopping season, I hear mention of “BLACK _____” to identify that day of each calendar year that the merchants balance sheets supposedly “go into the black” (getting them out of the red (balance-point.)
Which DAY of the week is this commonly or is it usually A SPECIFIC DATE on the calendar?
Should I avoid mentioning “Black Friday” in ref. to the Economic crumble that devastated the US Stock market (Oct 2001.)

Black Friday is the day after Thanksgiving. Thanksgiving is the 4th Thursday in November. See the first link.
Black Friday has also been used as a term for certain bad days in the stock market, but this is a less often used term. See the second and third links. I would avoid using the term “Black Friday” to refer to the stock market, as the term is confusing.
