myself, my partner and his parents are planning a trip for next year! we have read up reviews but still cant get an answer. we want to go somewhere with lots to do, good nightlife and nice beaches and if possible not far from the airport?

Puerto Plata. They have wonderful beaches and there’s an airport right in that town! I’m not sure about the nightlife but if you stay at a resort then I’m sure there will be nightlife there. Good luck!

Sounds like it’s the southern coast for you. Unless, you’re a surfer, that is. Then it would be the northern coast. Into a all-things-provided resort? All of the newer ones along the south coast east of Santo Domingo are good. Not going with a lot of money? Try a pleasant, inexpensive hotel in the little town of Boca Chica. It’s only 20 minutes from downtown Sto.Domingo, very near the best airport, the beaches are gorgeous, the water is clear and shallow, and there are great side trips you can take from there into the interior. It’s a bit past its better days when it was the hottest place on the island, but can still provide a very enjoyable family vacation. For night life you’d probably want to journey into the city. Try to spend at least a whole day in Sto.Domingo: great history, wonderful shopping, great restaurants and night life, an exciting, bustling city.

North coast, Puerto Plata area is the best combination, you will find anything you like to do ! The town of Puerto Plata is only 15 min away from all the resorts and is so special! Puerto Plata or Punta Cana are the best options as they are both not far from the airport and with the best beaches in DR.

I would say Puerto Plata and at the Playa Doradas area. Very close to airport, close to city of Puerto Plata, close to all kinds of activities add other villages like Sosua, Caberete. Shopping mall and Beach venders.
Punta Cana is all so very nice. Big resorts supper beaches. Not as much to do of the resort like Puerto Plata, but excellent beaches. Also close to airport. I’m adding a few links for you to search.
