Where to go on holiday in USA?

Question by Butterfly: Where to go on holiday in USA?
We want to go on a great holiday in the USA (2 of us in our 60s). We don’t want beaches, but we don’t want to be in ‘God’s Waiting Room’ either, or anywhere we are likely to be mugged, knifed or shot. We just want lots of sunshine, great and interesting places to visit, in fact something we will remember for a long time for all the right reasons. Oh! No driving involved either. I have asked this question before but got very few replies.

No driving, eh? Good luck. I reckon you’ll have to be stuck with the “good part” of the big city, if you’re planning on either walking or taking public transportation. I’d hate to take a vacation like that.

  1. I would suggest that you consider a train trip.

scroll down to see several options.

I think the Yosemite to Denali would be a great one as you would start in San Francisco and there are many opportunities for sight seeing and tours there before you board the train and you end up in Alaska.

On the other coast – this company:

offers tours of Washington DC – but also quite a few others that go out from there into neighboring states and sites. That way you could maintain a base – send 3 of 4 days in DC – lots of museums, and easily navigated with the Metro. Then take some out tours. At the website above you can see the tours on the right side of the screen.

Hope you find it helpful and enjoy your visit.

why don’t you stay in you house, no one want to see your face. your personality fits you face, you should hide it. and the way you awnsered my question is so immature, your probably 50 and alone, no wonder.. and don’t mess with me, if you don’t have anything to say, period.

Actually there are not too many places in the USA, without driving. Train travel is so limited, not anything like Europe. We all know the hassle and expense of air travel. There are some that actually enjoy intercity buses .BUT. There are only a very few cities in the USA, where you can have a good and interesting time just walking or taking transportation. New York, very few people use their car in the city and it is very easy to get around Manhattan. Just avoid certain neighborhoods and take the normal precautions. In spite of what you may read the New Yorkers almost always are quite helpful.
Chicago, wonderful vibrant city with excellent urban transportation. My son lives ind works in Chicago and does not own a vehicle. Great parks and museums. New Orleans, The famous French quarter is very small but does have many things going for it. It is not as rowdy as in the cinema, Wonderful restaurants, San Francisco – you can also get around without driving.. Only problem very hilly and walking can be tiring.Others are downtown Boston – Central Seattle (very different than most USA cities) and Portland, Oregon. I find almost all the USA cities look basically the same – Same shopping malls, same fast food places. I know that this is off the subject, but I just came back from Reykjavik, Iceland. Now that is a wonderful place to just walk around, Fascinating.
About getting mugged, knifed or shot, remember that there are over 300 million Americans and the TV loves to publicize all criminal acts. If you take the normal precautions you will be ok..
