Doesn’t matter how many years of experience you have, it depends on how many years of service you have with the company that employs you. Most jobs start with two weeks off (sick time varies from one contract to another) and works up as you pick up seniority, usually maxing out at six weeks vacation time.
The only standard is 2 weeks paid vacation no matter how much experience you have. Anything past that is bonus.
There is no requirement to give a worker sick days. If the company gives you any, that is a bonus too.
The stat holidays:
1 Jan – New Year’s
spring – Good Friday and Easter Monday (March or April)
May – Victoria Day (Monday near May 24th)
1 July – Canada Day
1st Monday in August (varies – not a holiday everywhere, but most of the country)
1st Monday in September – Labour Day
2nd Monday in October – Thanksgiving
11 November – Remembrance Day (not a holiday in Ontario)
25 December – Christmas Day
26 December – Boxing Day
There are some other provincial holidays – a few provinces have one in February, and there are scattered ones elsewhere. Quebec has St. John Baptist day (25 June, I believe). I am not sure if Boxing Day is a provincial holiday, although it is a Federal one (meaning banks etc., are closed).
All jobs have at least 10 days annual leave, many have 15, and several 20. Many companies will offer up to 25 days for employees after so many years on the job (e.g., 20 days to start, and 25 after 5 years service), and a handful offer more.
Sick days varies by job, but 10 days a year is common, which can accumulate. In most cases, they are lost if you do not take them, but that depends on the contract.
