USA West Coast holidays?

Hi,
My friends and I are planning a holiday to the West Coast of USA (we are from England) and will be 18 at the time.
We are having difficulties deciding where to go- as we want sun/beach/hot weather and sights/things to do in the day. Can you suggest where we can go which offers all of this?
