Q&A: Where is the best spot for a holiday in Costa Rica? Pacific coast? Caribbean coast?
Question by TruthGuy: Where is the best spot for a holiday in Costa Rica? Pacific coast? Caribbean coast?
I would like to rent a beach house next winter. I know it’s rather ‘quiet’ down there, but I’d like to have some sort of ‘night life’ or ‘civilization’ near by. Any ideas on where is best for me? thanks!

I definitely suggest you to visit Cabo! Winter time is awesome and you stay for long enough you are going to be able to see some whales.
Cabo is in the pacific coast and it’s really civilized, very good weather, nice shopping, fine dinning and tons of activities
I went to Costa Rica a year ago. The Caribbean side of Costa Rica is not recommended by locals in San Jose. A lot of black and Chinese. The were given land instead of pay when they were brought to work in Costa Ricas railroad construction. The Pacific side is beautiful. I would recommend Jaco or by Parque Nacional Manuel Antonio/. Craigslist has some options for beach houses.
I would not recommend Cabo in winter. Watter is too cold. I would recommend Acapulco and even better Cancun. If you want to go to Costa Rica i’d say that is a good option.

Both coasts boast great nightlife and both coasts are beautiful. However, they are both very different, it all depends what you are into.
Puerto Viejo on the Caribbean side is mostly an alternative-lifestyle town with alot of hippies and rastafarians running around. There is a great nightlife here, everything from reggae to techno can be heard late into the night. The town is rather small and undeveloped, a short walk in any direction will lead you to serene and tranquil landscapes.
On the pacific coast you will find the town of Jaco. This area is much more developed and commercialized. This area is particularly known for it’s overabundance of nightlife. This area is not for families though, as drugs and prostitutes will inevitably cross your path. Jaco is where everyone in the country goes to party, however, the neighboring towns and the outskirts of Jaco are rather peaceful.
I would also look into Tamarindo, in Guanacaste. This is a good medium between the two previously mentioned options.
Pacific Coast… Try Tamarindo…
