Q&A: mom died, dad and i want a nice beach vacation?

Question by Virginia P: mom died, dad and i want a nice beach vacation?
my dad and i do not want to spend the holidays all by ourselves in a big house w/out my mom (9 months since she passed) and would like to spend a vacation somewhere warm w/ beaches and possibly a cruise. and if not a cruise maybe a nice place in the caribbean or mexico where we can relax but also have adventurous fun (we have enjoyed snorkeling back in the past and would probably like to do more fun things!). any suggestions will be great!! thank you!!

    Myrtle Beach, SC

not too packed this time of year but then again its not soo warm if your are planning on going in the next month. right now its about 60 avg temp but realy quiet and relaxing and hotels and attractions are top notch (and quite inexpensive atm too)!

I am sorry to hear that your mother passed away. I would definitely recommend a cruise. That is by far the best vacation I have ever taken and I want to do it again. You have a place to stay and they offer lots of stuff to do and all the food you can eat. I hope you enjoy whatever vacation you choose to do. And sorry again about your mother.

  10. Sorry for your loss. :..(
But I hear St. Thomas is great, it is an Island in the Virgin Islands and it’s also apart of the U.S…
My sister just got back from there today in fact, she fell in love with it.
Have fun wherever your travels may take you!!!

Bless you and your father. This must be so hard for you. Go to Costa Rica. I’d reccomend Tortugera National Park. You’ll be away from contact with the CNN world. You’ll be with Miguel and the monkeys and crocs.

Get Katie to set up your trip. She’s fabulous.

Tell Miguel that Rosemary sends her love. You want to get away? This is the place, sweetie. Expect the howler monkeys to wake you early and enjoy the food and the natural wildness.

    All my best!

    So sorry to hear that.
I would definately suggest Hawaii, Bali and Fiji.
I have been to all those places and more and they were amazing.
The water is amazing and bali and fiji are very cheap.
Bali and Hawaii have very nice snorkelling places and great surf spots just the watch even.
    hope this was helpful.

    Sorry for your loss.
Mauritius was once featured in a tv show here in the Philippines. And I think it fits your description (a cruise…). Here’s a link:

Or you can also try our very own Palawan. There are many wonderful places here in the Philippines that you’ll surely enjoy. Here are the links:

A stay in an all-inclusive sounds good.

Mexico, or one of the Caribbean islands – Cuba, Dominican Republic.

These generally give you the oppotunity to do nothing, if you want, but also provide activities if you do fancy them.

a cruise with royal caribbean would be ideal. we went on liberty of the seas oct 07. Just perfect. Practically all of their shore excursions will include water based activities of some sort especially snorkeling. You can be as active or chilled as you like. Laze on a beach, go on a coach tour, the list is endless. Even on the ship there is a rock climbing wall a surf rider and an ice rink. Go for it. Wishing you and your dad a happy holiday whatever you choose and our thoughts are with you both

If you are looking for adventure and activities a cruise is the way to go. Beach resorts can be great but they are more for relaxing, not that it isn’t possible to relax on a cruise mind you, resorts just have less activities and options for adventure. If I wanted to relax and do little but lay in the sun and drink I would book a resort on an island, if I want activities and adventure nearly 24×7 then I would book a cruise. You’ll find people more outgoing and looking to form new friendships on a cruise, not that the people at the resorts are unfriendly they are looking more for relaxation.

  18. If you are looking for a beach vacation then you would want to consider St Lucia because it has several snorkeling sites and also places to go scuba diving. If you have never scuba dive then you will be given a crash course on the do’s and dont’s of it so no need to worry.

Some of the hotels provide you with different kinds of water sports and activities that you will enjoy.

You can find many lovely beaches from around the island. But don’t limit yourself to the beach because you will be missing out on so much.

Don’t forget to visit places like the Toraille falls, the drive in volcano, the pitons, diamond water falls, just to name a few.

It depends on a lot of things. I would avoid Cancun. I personally think it is more of a spring break kinda resort. However if you are young and your father is young still too then go for it. I enjoyed St. Lucia (Sandals Halcyon), Curacao, Domican Republic was okay but not great, and the Bahamas were okay. I personally do not like cruises. You are stuck at sea for days and then only have a ew (4-5 hours) to tour an island port.
