Question by amanda j: I am going on holiday to the USA and want to buy an I phone, will they work in the UK?
They are £100 cheaper in the USA than here in the UK, I want to buy one for my son, can anyone advise me if they will work in the UK? I have read on apple website that the phones are quad and tri band but im not too clued up on the technology side of things when I bring it back to the UK.

Ask your son (or some one elses). Kids seem to know more about these things.

Go to the UK shop and ask if they work in the US chances are if they do it one way round they do the other way.

Note:- for charging American electric and UK are very different. So maybe it will be useless here cos you cant recharge it.

Finally. Calculators when they came out over 30 years ago were £500 each. you can now get one for about a quid. Meaning todays inventions will drop a lot in price, often very quickly. By the time you get the system and bring it home it could be worth half. It could have beensupersededd already by improved technology and your attempt to impress might be the proverbial lead balloon.

Take him to the shop in the UK and treat him when you get back. Negotiate the price and get it discounted.

In the UK, you can only get an iphone on O2, and the cheapest contract sim card is £35 a month.

Other sims won’t work in them.

The older phone is free on the £35 a month, 2 year contract.

If you bought a phone in the states, the sim card would be American, and so your son would be charged roaming fees, which are colossally high. It would work, but it’d cost a small frtune
