they don’t ‘revolve’ around eating. We eat, or feast, as a way to celebrate. This has been goin gon for hundreds of years in all countries – even in the bible people feast as a form of celebration
Because I believe that we celebrate those holidays with friends, family, boyfriends, girlfriends, just to celebrate life in general, and most often than not it isrounded out with food;we all need food to survive and live, that’s why we eat at these holidays just to show God we are thankful for our lives, our friends’ lives, and families’ lives as well, then after we have eaten, then we celebrate the holiday for what its for! Don’t you think?
The only one I can think of that truly revolves around eating is Thanksgiving. Most of the holidays that are national holidays, have become holidays revolving around food because the religious foundation of the holiday has been removed by secular society (Christmas being about gift giving and receiving and Santa Claus instead of Jesus Christ’s birth, Easter being about candy and bunnies instead of the Resurrection of Christ, Halloween being about candy and dressing up instead of about the dead–although I believe this one stems from Paganism). So I can see why you see that the holidays revolve around eating. They are not supposed to be about that only, but have a deeper meaning. But that’s the glorious thing about living in a land with freedom of religion, you can celebrate these holidays how you see fit, and if you aren’t religious, or don’t want to recognize the religious aspect of these holidays (someone who celebrates Christmas but doesn’t believe in Christ, for example), you can do as you please. Isn’t freedom great?
