Q&A: Can a website change a holiday price after booking?

Question by Ross N: Can a website change a holiday price after booking?
I have recently booked a ski holiday for 8 people to USA in March 2009 through a very large online Ski operator.

On their website they have underpriced the price of the lift passes which is why i snapped up the prices so early.

I have since read on their Terms and conditions that they can increase the price if they have made a mistake or if their costs increase. It also states they can increase the price of the flight if their costs go up.

Can they do this even if i have an invoice for a certain amount?

Any help would be much appreciated.

I really hate it when that happens. I was going to recommend you check the small print, but clearly you have done that already and it sounds as though they have covered themselves quite tightly.

It would appear that by law they can do this – since it is in their small print, but that doesn’t mean it is good practice or fair. I would write to the head office and make a firm but polite complaint. Say that you used the company, because you considered it to be offering a professional service at a very competitive price and now you, and the rest of your party of 8, feel let down by the company. End your letter with a request for a reply in writing at their earliest convenience.

You may find that they offer you some compensation for their mistake.

Hope it works out well.
